Clash of the Titans: 3D or Not 3D, That is the Question!

Warner Bros. will decide in the next 10 days whether to release this in 3D.

Clash of the Titans is set to be released March 26th and Warner is still on the fence whether to go 3D or not. We had previously been told by the director, Louis Letterier that Titans would not go 3D. It sounds like the studiio is hedging their bet on this. WB has gone so far as to order a 3D test of the movie. They will convert 2D scenes from the movie and screen them. The biggest reason for this is the box office success of Avatar.

With conversions, 2D films -- whether newly produced movies or classic titles slotted for release, such as the first two Toy Story movies - are run through a process that turns 2D images into 3D. Most 3D movies, including Avatar, are shot in 3D from the start.

Why go back and forth on 3D? It comes down to dollars and cents. The studios see a large chunk of that two to four dollar upcharge. One of the main reasons Warner Bros. is grappling with this is another 3D movie is coming out the same weekend: DreamWorks Animation’s big animated feature How to Train Your Dragon.

The word from a studio insider on the prospect of securing thousands of 3D screens for the Sam Worthington movie: "No problem."

Co-produced by Legendary Pictures, “Titans” is a re-imagining of a 1981 film that starred Laurence Olivier in the character of Zeus. The role is played by Liam Neeson in the remake, appearing opposite Sam Worthington’s Perseus in the mythology-based actioner.

They always give you the option in cinemas these days so I don't see it as a big issue personally. I have no problem with 3D as long as the film makers don't have it in mind whilst making it. Like putting in certain scenes just to use the 3D technology.

i.e. the latest Final Destination movie. That was there to just showcase the 3D thing. Having said that it did make me jump at the start when the screw comes at you lol.

3D gaming is what I'm really looking forward too. Played Burnout Paradise in 3D on that Nvidia thing. Woah! =D

So all I have to do is stand around like a statue and girls will rub their privates on me? Sweet!

How can they decide to do 3D after shooting most things? What, do save in layers or something?

Betty,
somehow they convert the images over. I would imagine it loses something over being shot in 3D from the beginning.

Take it from someone who took his daughter to see the toy story 1 and 2 in 3D extravaganza . . . if it's not made with 3D in mind, it's a waste of my money, and yours.

definitely 2D

I think the 2d will be fine. I'm not paying an extra 4 dollars for every Tom dick and Perseus who want it.

I never deleted anything here. Even though I don't agree with your inflammatory crap

I would assume that the 2D- 3D conversion is the same thing that they claim to be HD when it was Standard Def ... it is like an Up Convert but not true HD or true 3D... Like Nemesis said waste of money

I'm looking forward to this, but Sam Worthington has some big sandals to fill. IMHO Harry Hamlin was great as the original Perseus. Loved the original, really hope this remake does it justice. (crossing my fingers)... oh, I would also prefer that it NOT be in 3D (2 cents)
