In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. I noticed the article section for GL is dead as is the franchise. Who knows...JLA is right around the corner.

I loved the look of this movie. I thought the costume designs were perfect. The guardians and Parallax looked terrible though.

This news really is moot. We only had a glimpse of Stel. This is where the budget went, taking the time and money to have numerous designs for a Green Lantern who only appeared for a split second.

Say what you will about how crappy GL was, but the concept design and art direction was Top notch! I hope that when/if they have another go at GL they use those designs. I have the Art of GL book and the designs are fantastic.

...Oh one more thing for those tools who will say that the suit should be spandex or some shit like that....it's generated by the ring so the design was comic accurate. I'm glad they ditched the white gloves though :)

I've just watched the movie again yesterday, and whereas I thought I'd be able to tolerate it better given the fact that I've already known what to expect, I ended up loathing it even more, instead. It's a bad movie in the first place - horribly shot, a lot of cringe-worthy moments, and terrible script - although to be fair, it adapts the characters pretty well. Yes, Hector Hammond who is jealous toward Hal Jordan's life, and all that...they nailed them pretty well, but the execution was poor as hell. (Not to mention the fact that Hector Hammond has never been a worthy main villain.) But no, I don't want it to be completely rebooted, just because they've got Mark Strong as Sinestro. Such a perfection deserves another shot, and of course, a better treatment.

Anyway, cool designs there. The movie's got cool designs here and there, actually, including the concept of the CGI suit - I have to admit I adore the texture they've managed to craft for that costume. But as JLU51306 said, it's a shame that it spent way too much budget on things that we only saw the glimpses of. And using CGI to build things from scratch is just wrong. They should've gone with some practical effects, miniatures, et cetera. If you see the movie again, you'll notice how Kilowog is so fake-looking, especially when he walks toward Hal in the training scene. Had they used CGI to enhance rather than to create, I think the product would've been so much better, and cheaper perhaps.

And keep in mind, I'm a big Green Lantern fan. But sadly, I have nothing much to defend about the movie...although my biggest gripe of the movie is still how disappointing it was.

Watchable movie. Could have been so much more. Give it a sequel before Justice League and have the cast return. Everything was fine apart from the fact it took place mainly on Earth when it should have been 90% Space and it should of had a bigger shared universe presence. Come on DC, the Green Lantern is an awesome creation.

To me, it isn't because it's mainly set on Earth - take a look at Green Lantern: Secret Origins, or Geoff Johns' Volume 4 run on the title, or even Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn; they're all set mostly on Earth, yet they were all great stories. It's just the movie once again doesn't have a worthy main villain, and it's greatly divided by the fact that they have both Parallax and Hector Hammond the makers seemed unable to control both villains' portions and ended up with such a mess. And it's a mistake they've always had since day one, that has existed since the first draft of the script. (With Legion and, well, Hector Hammond.) Sure, setting it in space seems like a safer way and could've made it lean more toward a space epic, but it isn't that essential.

Oh, and by the way I am a staunch defender of the direction they chose to go with the cgi suit. Look, at least he's wearing a suit which is more than we can say for a lot of these cbm's these days. Yea, the movie was pretty weak and I can't cite too many other good things about it, but to me the suit was a good idea and it suited (no pun intended) the character well. Whatever.

It sucked that the film was not good, could have been the start of something great from DC/WB, as if it had done well then we may have seen more heroes on screen other than Superman and Batman.

I hope Green Lantern will be great in the next movies than last film by which it like Justice League 2015 and movies more. Better, WB should know what do to make the best Green Lantern in next movie than last movie. I really hope WB learned lesson of what last GL movie's big mistakes parts done. Then they could do to make it someday.

The movie isn't great but I still enjoy it.

And I think the franchise is still viable. Better story and writers needed of course. We can point GL in the right direction beginning with the JL film IMO

Yeah, lots of wasted time, effort, and money on all these extra GL's that either got one second one screen in a crowd or were killed in a pathetic attempt to attack Parallax. The first half of the movie was great IMO, but the moment Sinestro says "well lets just use a yellow ring instead!" and so quickly throws away what we were told was a billion year old staple of the corps is just ridiculous. Also, why Sinestro calls this "imprecidented gathering" because they face an "unprecedented danger", yet for what? He had likely the greatest fighting force in the universe respond and what does he do with thousands of GL's at his disposal? Make a speech and then send them all back home, clearly he only needs about 8 to take on the enemy. Just bad, bad writing. They focused on the visuals too much and failed on the script. I feel like they didnt give enough respect to the corps or show how ba they can be. That's what I want in a sequel. I saw this 3 times in theater cause I wanted to believe it would get better. It does get more watchable, especially with the directors cut, but it's still a sad waste of great potential.

Bring on the sequel! And keep the cast! Change the writers and director!

I bought the BluRay the other day only because it was 5 dollars (BestBuy had placed wrong price tag) and watched it again. So disappointing. I preferred GL First Flight. A munch better story. I doubt we will ever see a live action solo GL movie again. Sad but true

It breaks my heart that any number of GL TAS episodes would make a better film in live action form. How could the series get so much right and the movie, with so much more time and budget, get everything so wrong?

Case in point - we don't need to see detailed origins in CBM's anymore. In the first animated episode Carol and Hal's secret identity is all handled in minutes. Argh, I better stop right there.

@Archer1111 Have you read any Green Lantern Origin stories? I own the entire GL series from golden to modern and I know they got EVERYTHING about Green Lantern's origin absolutely right the best way to capture it live action. Right down to Hal kneeling on Abin's side while accepting the ring. They even did a perfect mix of Geoff Johns' Origin story and the silver age one.

TAS jumps right into a GL storyline without any backstory, Live action can't do that successfully. First Flight is the closest animated that could be adapted, and even that script wouldn't hold water in live action.

The ONLY thing that would have made this movie better is about 20-30 more minutes of team battle scenes with those corps members like Stel who took so much of the budget. The lack of Corps action for such a huge budget is the one main thing I don't understand, but I still love the imagery that we did get and RR & co def gave the characters believability. Seems like Martin Campbell really didn't want any focus disctracted from Hal Jordan being the main hero, because a corps team up with Kilowog, Sinestro, Tomar was in the concept art. It just didn't make the movie.

On your point about origin stories, I'm pretty sure that no movie studios would be willing to take that gamble. Marvel included. Avengers may have been successful without Cap and Thor movies, but really, it was difficult enough for Joss to pull together a team movie script WITH the origins, let alone without them. and btw, Cap and Thor's origins (not to mention their miniscule on screen time in costume) were much more tedious and drawn out than GL's origin.
