Homophobic And Sexist Comments James Gunn Made About Superheroes In 2011 Have Now Surfaced
Following the news that Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn was fired by Disney, more shocking comments made by the filmmaker have surfaced, this time relating to having sex with superheroes...
Earlier today, James Gunn was fired by Disney after coming under fire for offensive comments he made in a series of Tweets in 2010. As a result, the filmmaker will no longer take the helm of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and the movie's future is very much up in the air as a result. Regardless, more shocking remarks from Gunn have now surfaced, this time - somewhat ironically - in relation to superheroes.
Back in February 2011, the director shared a post on his website titled "The 50 Superheroes You Most Want to Have Sex With: 2nd Annual Poll Results" which were voted on by Twitter and Facebook users.
Some of the remarks made there are pretty horrifying as Gunn talks about a Marvel/DC crossover which would result in Iron Man being able to "turn" lesbian character Batwoman if he were to have sex with her. He also refers to the Stephanie Brown version of Batgirl as being "easy" because she had a baby as a teenager, while Cassandra Cain's "daddy issues" mean she's "just my type." Uncomfortable...
It gets worse, though, as Gunn talks in detail about ejaculating on Spider-Woman's face and makes fun of the fact that a lot of gay men voted for The Flash by pointing out that, "[If] I was going to get f****d in the butt, I too would want it to be by someone who would get it over with quick." The post was littered with slut-shaming and homophobic language and it all makes for very uncomfortable reading.
Shortly after, the Guardians of the Galaxy director issued an apology which was published through GLAAD and his own Facebook page in which he shared his regrets for the language he used. Like those Tweets, these comments were made several years ago but a pretty disturbing pattern of behaviour is beginning to emerge in regards to Gunn's sense of humour which seemingly justifies his firing today.
