Controversial GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: VOL 2 Casting Call Seeks 'Ravagers' & Model Aliens

With casting for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 well underway, following this week's relatively unknown addition of Pom Klementieff as Mantis, the Marvel Studios production is now searching for several alien background extras. However, the following casting call from Tammy Smith Casting has received some flak for having "sexist" suggestions. It asks for men who are "tough, rough, quirpy, and biker types" for a "Character Alien" role(s), while the "Beautiful/Model Alien" role(s) asks for "very attractive, physically fit, slender, or thin" women and men. Some Twitter folk and even a few sites took this one particular casting notice to conclude that women who do not fit that description are just not allowed an opportunity to work on the 2017 Marvel sequel altogether.

The notice also asks for Bald Women seperately, which some think implies they can't be beautiful.

Of course, this criticism garnered a response from Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 writer/director James Gunn, who took to Twitter to set the record straight:  "There are DOZENS of cultures in GotGVol2. These are the 1st two we're shooting (the Ravagers are all male)." He later added, "There are plenty of funny looking female aliens. These are just a small % of extras." Anyhow, the casting call is being held next week in Atlanta, Georgia, where filming will primarily take place in February. So, if you meet the criteria and would like to audition, check the SOURCE for specifics.

Starring Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Vin Diesel (Groot), Sean Gunn (Kraglin), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Karen Gillan (Nebula), with Bradley Cooper (Rocket), and Benicio del Toro (The Collector)(?), Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.

Just echoing the above sentiments, but what an absolutely ridiculous thing to get upset over. My goodness.

Next thing is they have to start auditioning all females for any role because it's sexist. Better give all women the opportunity to audition for the next Wolverine so it's equality for all! Look I believe in women's right but this is ridiculous. If the part is specific for a certain look then so be it! No one is trying to cut anyone out of a job. Especially for a movie. Am I supposed to believe that Chris Farley was a secret agent in a serious role? Or would you rather someone "fit" who looks the part.

Why even complain about something like this? Chances are they're using a set type for an alien race and are trying to get similar looking people. That's like complaining about the Wizard of Oz for casting only little people as the munchkins.

@0megaDaGr0dd I copy/pasted that block from one of my old articles in which Benicio said he doesn't think he'll return. I suppose a question mark would suffice rather than a strikeout. I remember Gunn early on that the Collector would return, but I'm not sure what has changed since then.

Doesn't Quill like model type aliens....He's a womanizing superficial kind of guy so this makes sense

Nothing to be mad about

Yep, leftists, especially feminists, will cherry pick if that's what it takes to complain. The ad clearly wants attractive, fit men AND women, but the men part is glossed over. The ugly men are Ravagers. Do any women want to be considered ugly ass Ravagers? Lol
