Disney CEO Bob Iger Isn't Backing Down When It Comes To James Gunn's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Firing
Since Dinsey decided to fire writer and director James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, there's been an awful lot of fan backlash. However, it doesn't appear as if CEO Bob Iger is taking note...
It's been a quiet few weeks for fans hoping to learn more about James Gunn's future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but it doesn't sound like the fan complaints, petitions, and social media backlash have had any sort of impact. We've now heard on multiple occasions that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will end up being directed by someone else and Disney CEO Bob Iger is standing firm by his decision.
"The James Gunn decision was brought to me as a unanimous decision of a variety of executives at the studio and I supported it," he revealed in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Once he was asked if the backlash has had any sort of impact on that decision and if he still supports it, Iger added: "I haven’t second-guessed their decision." In other words, don't expect anything to change.
That's a shame but it makes sense and it's hard to imagine Gunn ever returning to the MCU at this stage. Dave Bautista has claimed that Vol. 3 has been put on hold indefinitely so we could be waiting for that movie for a while too. With any luck, plans will start becoming clear once Marvel Studios announces its Phase 4 slate! What do you guys think? Let us know your thoughts down below.
