In just over a week, the Guardians of the Galaxy will take flight for the final time (under director James Gunn, at least), and whether they meet their maker or simply ride off into the sunset, we will almost certainly be bidding farewell to a few characters.
Dave Bautista (Drax) and Zoe Saldaña (Gamora) have already confirmed that they won't be returning, but what about Karen Gillan?
While speaking with Total Film, the Scottish actress was a bit less forthcoming about her future as Nebula, but it sounds like she'd be happy to keep playing the cybernetic Daughter of Thanos should the opportunity arise.
"I was under the impression I was signing up for eight days of filming on the first film. And then it just gradually kept getting extended. And here we are, nine or 10 years later. I just genuinely love this character so much, and I feel like there’s just an endless amount of things that could be done with her. So, yeah, I would obviously love to explore more, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen. I’m waiting to see just as much as everyone else [laughs]."
If this is the end of the road for Nebula, Gillan could always jump ship to the DCU! Gunn has already said that he'd love to work with his GOTG cast on some DC-based projects, and the former Doctor Who star already has a certain character in mind.
"I always thought that Poison Ivy was really fun. So maybe something like that would be cool. Honestly, if James asked me to play an alien that sits in the background of a shot and doesn’t talk, I would say yes [laughs]. Because working with him has been one of the great joys of my career so far."
Do you think Karen Gillan would be a good fit for Poison Ivy? Drop us a comment, and check out the most recent clip from GOTG Vol. 3 below.
"In Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past." "Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life—a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them."
Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, and Maria Bakalova. Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters on May 5, 2023.
