BROTHERS BY BLOOD Star Maika Monroe Wouldn't Hesitate To Return For An IT FOLLOWS Sequel - EXCLUSIVE

It Follows was a hit when it was released in 2014, and while those sequel talks never seemed to pan out, star Maika Monroe is 100% on board with starring in a follow-up (no pun intended) if it happens...

Brothers by Blood takes place in Philadelphia, and picks up with eight-year-old Peter Flood after he helplessly watches on as his little sister is killed by a neighbour’s reckless driving. Tormented with grief and resentment, his father finds revenge as the only solution, leaving lasting generational wounds.

Thirty years later, Peter still wrestles with the guilt he feels over his sister’s death and his father’s vengeance. As he tries to distance himself from the criminal family business, his cousin, Michael, becomes more powerful in the hierarchy. Bonded by blood, neither man can escape violence as they are dragged further into a chilling cycle of betrayal and retribution. You can find our review here.

The movie stars Matthias Schoenaert (The Old Guard), Joel Kinnaman (The Suicide Squad), and Maika Monroe (The Stranger), and we recently caught up with the latter to discuss her taking on the role of Grace.

We'll have more on the movie for you soon, but we had to ask Maika about the possibility of an It Follows sequel. Released in 2014, the horror movie captivated audiences and grossed $23.3 million worldwide against a $2 million budget, becoming something of a cult classic in the process. There was once talk of a sequel, but it's been a while, so would the actress still be interested in a follow-up?

"Yeah, one of my favourite directors I've worked with is David [Robert Mitchell]. I would do anything to be able to work with him again!" she tells us. "Whether it's an It Follows sequel or something else, I think he's so insanely talented, and I'm looking forward to his upcoming projects that he has."

We also asked Maika whether she ever expected It Follows to resonate with horror fans the way it has.

"No, I had no idea the impact it would have. I remember on set, and I don't usually watch playback, but there were a couple of times where we were doing really long shots, and it was helpful to watch and understand the movement of the camera, and I remember where I was just like, 'Whoa! These shots are stunning.' I'd never really seen horror shot this way, so there were moments where I said, 'Oh man, maybe this will turn out to be something really cool,' but you never really know."

"It's pretty wild," Maika concluded, "and it's just incredible how this has impacted so many people and how some of them still to this day love the film so much. It's pretty cool."

Brothers by Blood will be released in Select theaters, On VOD & Digital on January 22nd, 2021.

It Follows is still my all time favorite horror movie. My personal fear is being followed, so it really connected with me on a personal level. The excellent direction, performances, pacing, and other-worldly feel really helped too.

@RickSlimes - I really enjoyed Villains. It was fun, for sure. I didn’t really know what it was going into it, so the ride was even better when it takes a left turn pretty quickly into the movie.

@Santanaonfire - Yeah, I really liked it too! Wish I hadn't seen the trailer as that gives away a lot. I thought the whole cast did a great job! Was pleasantly surprised.

It Follows is fantastic and genuinely scary and tense. My fiancé doesn’t do much horror, and though it’s not gory or a monster flick, I would never try to show her that movie, she would have nightmares for sure.

Speaking of Maika Monroe movies, The Guest is also excellent. I’ve seen it several times and it was my introduction to Dan Stevens who is just so quietly menacing in that movie. If you’ve never seen The Guest, definitely check it out!
