Creators of the CHUCKY Franchise Want Nothing to Do With MGM' Impending Reboot

MGM is moving ahead with plans to reboot Chucky, but the creator and the voice actor of the killer doll, are focusing more on their own projects.

We’ve heard about the planned reboot of Chucky MGM wants to dish out on us, and not everyone is happy about it. The problem is, the current continuation is still very active, therefore, one has to wonder why MGM wants to go down this road.

Now, the team has been trying to get Brad Dourif, the man who voices Chucky for all seven movies, andd the man who wrote the script for them all, Don Mancini. However, things didn’t go as planned because both men decided on joining forces with MGM.

The main reason is the fact that the franchise in its current form is still alive, and both men are working on delivering a Chucky TV show in the future. With that in mind, they have no incentives to help MGM work on a reboot that would rival what they have done and are still doing.

“We’re still working on the series and also plan to continue the film franchise with Universal,” according to Mancini in a statement to Bloody Disgusting. “We intend to stay true to the universe we’ve created.”

Without the aid of Mancini and Dourif, time will tell if MGM decide to keep moving forward, or if it’ll simply shelf all plans of rebooting Chucky.

While the entire idea of a reboot doesn’t come off as a good plan, one must admit that if done properly, MGM could achieve greatness. A fresh set of actors and a new writer, along with a quality director could get the job done.

The primarily problem would be how to differentiate the Chucky reboot from the current continuation. There are many ways MGM can do this, so from our point of view, the entire thing is possible.

They should get Andy Muschietti to direct with Cameron Monaghan as Charles Lee Ray. And they should end the film with him actually transferring his soul to the boy. The sequels would be about a serial killer child who goes by the name of his favorite doll Chucky.

I'd do it as a supernatural thriller. Charles Lee Ray would really be Jack The Ripper who has been switching bodies to avoid capture. This leads to him being the Zodiac and HH Holmes. John, Chucky's mentor would be hunting him down for perverting the voodoo teachings. Of course the film would open with the shoot out involving detective Mike Norris, who seemingly kills Chucky who in an act of desperation moves to an Inanimate object in the Good Guy Doll. There he is trapped unless he can move to a pure soul. Well the doll falls into the care of 6 Year Old Andy Barclay, distraught emotionally since his parents are divorced. So Chucky pals with Andy baiting his old Mentor John. While Andy's mom is going crazy over the murders while Norris investigates. This leads to John seeking out Andy's mom and detective Norris hoping to get them to help him. Norris ignores him and Andy's mom Joins John. Chucky doesn't know how to get put of the body and in an effort to catch Chucky, John uses himself as bait. Andy's mom fails to stop him, chucky tricks john into getting the secret to get out of the doll but andy's mom gets evidence to convince Norris to help. So they work together to hunt down Chucky who tries to kidnap andy.

Michael Shannon as Charles Lee Ray
Djimon Hounsou as John
Hugh Dancy as Detective Mike Norris

"However, things didn’t go as planned because both men decided on joining forces with MGM."

This literally contradicts everything else in the article.

Good, they should keep continuing with what they have rather than this unnecessary reboot.

We been hearing about a reboot for years now that they don't wanna do it if mgm deciced to go ahead in do it anyway they can keep the child's play name cause they the ones that didn't give up the rights to the original name of the movie and trilogy this is why the newer trilogy of movies owned by universal is now just called chucky anyway my question is did brad did his one line scream in ready player one?
