We’ve heard about the planned reboot of Chucky MGM wants to dish out on us, and not everyone is happy about it. The problem is, the current continuation is still very active, therefore, one has to wonder why MGM wants to go down this road.
Now, the team has been trying to get Brad Dourif, the man who voices Chucky for all seven movies, andd the man who wrote the script for them all, Don Mancini. However, things didn’t go as planned because both men decided on joining forces with MGM.
The main reason is the fact that the franchise in its current form is still alive, and both men are working on delivering a Chucky TV show in the future. With that in mind, they have no incentives to help MGM work on a reboot that would rival what they have done and are still doing.
“We’re still working on the series and also plan to continue the film franchise with Universal,” according to Mancini in a statement to Bloody Disgusting. “We intend to stay true to the universe we’ve created.”
Without the aid of Mancini and Dourif, time will tell if MGM decide to keep moving forward, or if it’ll simply shelf all plans of rebooting Chucky.
While the entire idea of a reboot doesn’t come off as a good plan, one must admit that if done properly, MGM could achieve greatness. A fresh set of actors and a new writer, along with a quality director could get the job done.
The primarily problem would be how to differentiate the Chucky reboot from the current continuation. There are many ways MGM can do this, so from our point of view, the entire thing is possible.
