This is one of the few remakes im excided to see!;)
They couldnt have found a better replacement for Chris Sarandon than Colin Farrell. I think he will nail the role.
Hope we see the beasty side of Dandridge too.

I still to this day do not under-f*cking-stand why they are remaking this movie. It's such a classic. Perfect the way it is. I mean, it has great actors and all, but damn, with all the past movies out there, why not remake one of the thousands of shit fests that tanked critically and commercially. Now, there lies a challenge! Remaking a good movie doesn't always mean the new one will be good. Remaking a bad movie seems a lot less risky, especially with fan/critic reaction.

Much as I generally despise remakes of films that have nostalgic value to me, I'm trying to keep an open mind about this one. I like the casting for all the major players - I just hope it's at least half as much fun as the original, which I think is one of the best of the horror/comedy genre.

Glad this is being remade because it means the original will come out on blu ray and that's all I care about.

Like I said, I usually hate remakes of films that I love but I think this one could be a lot of fun if done right. For example, taking the piss out of the Peter Vincent/Chris Angel - type character, not to mention the current fascination with vampire movies... there are a lot of ripe targets these days. The original Fright Night was hilariously self-aware as vampire movies go - I'm hoping for more of the same with the remake.

I'm not saying no remake can be good, I'm just saying I think Hollywood should tread a little lighter with what they choose to remake. I absolutely love the Dawn of the Dead remake. I think with the actors they've cast for Fright Night, it could turn out quite good. But when you mess with a classic, you should definitely be prepared for some backlash, especially if it fails to deliver as well as the original.

@Nordberg- I totally agree with what you're saying, and I too will probably see this, if for nothing more than for comparison's sake. And btw, don't you ever compare Peter Vincent to that douche bag Criss Angel ever again! ;)

@JohnnySmoke- Love the avatar, dude! :)

I loved Fright Night. It really had the scary movie vibe that a lot of movies are missing. During the 80's a lot of effects relied heavily on make-up, but now cgi is the thing. I think that is really taking away the thrill of the movies for me. I loved the make-up. I still think Michael Jacksons thriller is still kinda creepy when he transforms with all the fangs and shit. Movie goers are losing out on a lot of those elements.

@StrangerX- Agreed. CGI is great for CBMs and sci-fi epics, but practical effects are definitely the way to go when it comes to horror movies, especially the ones featuring vampires, werewolves, and zombies.

StrangerX & MatchesMalone@ Couldnt agree more!

An American Werewolf In London specially had deep affect on me in my childhood! It was scary and funny in sametime and that somehow made it very twisted and disturbing film! And i think the most biggest reasons are Rick Baker´s make-up effects which made it look so realistic back then!
I still get spooked by it!;)

Fright Night is a classic "terrir" genre, pioneer of the 80's new wave of horror flicks. I love it, it's a great movie... I expect some respect for the original at least.

Does everyone know that the original actor who played EVIL ED started doing GAY PORN in the 1990's.

From what I've been reading, THIS one is not going to be as "campy" as the original which disappoints me. The original, like someone else has already said, was self-aware and the "campiness" was part of what made it such a great film!

I'm curious to see this, just to see IF they can improve on the original, but I highly doubt it. But, would not surprise me at all if it comes out PG-13. Which, I'll then wait for the DVD or cable. It's GOTTA have boobs and gore if they're going to try to at least honor the original.

I remember seeing the music video for "Fright Night" by The J. Geils Band prior to actually seeing the film and the scene where Amy turns into the monstrous vampire with the [frick]ed up mouth scared the living beejesus out of me!

I wonder if there are going to be any cameos.

Both Chris Sarandon and William Ragsdale (he's a regular on Justified, which is excellent, btw) are still very active. Haven't seen Amanda Bearse in anything recently but Stephen Geoffreys (Evil Ed) has apparently stopped eating dicks for a living and seems to be pretty busy making low budget films. Too bad Roddy is gone... he stole the show in the original.
