Neil Marshall's (The Descent, Dog Soldiers, Game of Thrones) career hit a bump in the road thanks to his infamously terrible Hellboy reboot, but the director has now returned to the horror genre for RLJE and Shudder's creepy-looking period chiller, The Reckoning.

The movie stars Charlotte Kirk (you can Google the British actress' controversial history with Marshall at your leisure) as a young woman falsely(?) accused of witchcraft in 17th century England before being locked away to await her "trial."

As a ruthless witch-hunter (Sean Pertwee) sets about extracting a confession, it soon becomes clear that there is something supernatural at play after all.

Check out the trailer below along with a new poster, and let us know what you think in the comments.

After losing her husband during the Great Plague, Grace Haverstock (Charlotte Kirk) is unjustly accused of being a witch and placed in the custody of England’s most ruthless witch-hunter, Judge Moorcroft (Sean Pertwee). Forced to endure physical and emotional torture while steadfastly maintaining her innocence, Grace must face her own inner demons as the Devil himself starts to work his way into her mind.

The Reckoning is set to hit theaters, On Demand and Digital on February 5, 2021.

I watched The New Mutants the other day,not as bad as I thought it might be.

Magik was the only reason I wanted to see it and she was definitely the best character in the movie.

@marvel72 - It had an interesting concept but terrible execution. The director wanted to remake Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors & One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest but with mutants. It felt like I was watching the pilot of a tv show or extended short film. The "gang" lacked chemistry, it was unconvincing how they all became a team, Magick's accent was terrible, powers are randomly on/off, how they stopped the "demon bear" was dumb, etc.

This film needed reshoots for more characterization and to structure the scenes better. Scenes transitioned oddly and a lot of "character depth & motivation" are missing. Some things just don't make sense: it seemed like the dr was talking to a staff but you find out that she's the only person staffed in the hospital or why is the richest kid their cook, dish washer, and janitor(is it because he's latino...racist much)?

@Blergh - It's hard to tell... after Googling her I can see why Marshall lost his mind though!

@Blergh - she's every hollywood exec's mistress, don't forget about Kevin Tsujihara & Bratt Ratner lol

Guess talent does matter to an extent in hollywood because she failed all the big budget movie auditions even though she was the most pushed actress for awhile. Wonder who Amber Heard had to have "dinner" with to get Aquman and JL.

- a new Nightmare on Elm Street movie following the classic continuity following the events of "Freddy vs. Jason". Five kids are brought together to treat their insomnia, turns out the local Doctor intends to ressurect Freddy Krueger. Freddy is physically portrayed by a stuntman and is voiced by Robert Englund.

- a TV series set in the "World of Darkness" (the overall universe harboring "Vampire: The Masquerade" and "Werewolf: The Apocalypse") about the clashes between vampires, werewolves, ghosts, demons and mages alike all with human characters thrown in between.

- a "Conjuring" TV series that has the Warrens battle a different entity each season.

- a "Resident Evil" sequel to the Anderson movies following Claire Redfield who is searching for her brother in the remains of Umbrella. Generally a movie meant to tie up loose ends the movies left open (aka: where are Chris, Leon, Ada & Jill)

- a "Buffy" revival series focusing on Willow being that Watcher for a new Slayer after the Slayer-line has been reduced again.

btw. your idea for Underworld 6 is dope

'Neil Marshall's career hit a bump in the road thanks to his infamously terrible Hellboy reboot.'

If Sam Raimi can return to Marvel to make Doctor Strange, then there's still hope for Guillermo Del Toro returning to Hellboy 3. Anything is possible.

@GothamSon - Either Raimi or Del Toro would be great picks for that Spawn reboot.

@RingSlinger700 - This is the most recent iteration of the upcoming 'Spawn' reboot, if you're interested. Be careful, tho- the review contains massive spoilers, link to the screenplay in the comments.

@GothamSon - Interesting if it actually got made, but a straight adaptation of Spawn (focusing on Al Simmons) might serve the character better. Thing is I feel like McFarlane shouldn't be fully involved with a reboot. As a consultant, sure. But as writer/director/financier I don't think so. Michael Jai White said it himself:

In the right hands it could be a dark, fantastical anti-hero character piece with a horror tint. You need someone who has the experience and love for the character to get it right.

Looks like a rip off of The VVitch. Not a good idea...that was a hugely underrated classic in my opinion.

@emeraldtaurus - underrated? Overrated imo

@ThorArms - go watch it again. The acting and aesthetic was superb. And the twist at the end was very clever. Essentially...the movie shows how witches are recruited by the Devil ...and it does it do convincingly . Its a classic.

He's earned a lifetime of goodwill from me off that insane run of his first four films - will always happily put down money to support him, but of course the bigger jobs he gets the less autonomy he has to make *his* films.

First off, Hellboy (2019) wasn't terrible at all. It wasn't great or as good as Del Toro's first 2, but it was still entertaining. Y'all tripping. Second, this movie looks interesting.

@Jacory - yeah, it's nowhere NEAR as bad as everyone would have you believe. But it certainly feels like there were too many chefs in the kitchen on that one - feels like it's being pulled in too many directions at once and not getting anywhere.
