Walt Disney Picture's latest foray into live-action films will introduce a new hero to the masses, John Carter. Here's the official synopsis from Disney:

From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, WALL-E), JOHN CARTER OF MARS brings this captivating hero to the big screen in a stunning adventure epic set on the wounded planet of Mars, a world inhabited by warrior tribes and exotic desert beings. Based on the first of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ 'Barsoom Series,' the film chronicles the journey of Civil-War veteran John Carter (Taylor Kitch), who finds himself battling a new and mysterious war amidst a host of strange Martian inhabitants, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins).

The science fiction/adventure film will reunite Kitch and Collins, who both starred in last years X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Also featured in the production are Mark Strong, the future villain Sinestro in Martin campbell's Green Lantern, along with other comic movie veterans Dominic West (Punisher: War Zone), James Purefoy (Solomon Kane), Thomas Hayden Church (Spider-Man 3) Ciaran Hinds (Road to Perdition) and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man Trilogy).

Church's character belongs to the savage race of Green martians, standing 10 - 12' tall, green, four-armed and with eyes on the sides of his head. Purefoy's character is one of the Red humanoid martians, while Strong's character is one of the white-skinned Thern, who are bald but wear wigs.

John Carter of Mars is the first film in a planned trilogy, which will aiming for a PG-13 rating.

editing this because someone deleted my "first" post.....so I'm first!

hehehe....

anyway. Don't know about this dude for Carter, but I can definetly see that chick as Deja Thoris! Bring on the itsy-bitsy teeny-weeny bikini! Or better yet do the books justice and leave out the clothes altogether....as if disney'd do that.

Don't screw this up disney, if you do, my daughter will never see the inside of any of your parks!

Doubt they'll allow a little booby. Especially since they have a guy from Pixar doing the directing.

I wish it was at least PG-13 though!
I want to see at least a little cleavage
bare bellies, and skimpy female clothing!

Oh, well, no Frazetta for this incarnation!

Oh, it is PG-13! But I sure wish it was R!

You know what I like best about that synopsis? They aren't "modernizing" the story. It's a period piece. It actually takes place in the same time period as written by ERB eighty plus years ago. I wish film makers would go that route more often.

Bubbadude@ You are absolutely right! I dont see Kitsch as John Carter eather.

James Caviezel, Matthew Bomer or Christian Bale for John Carter!

Ps. I would like to see Michael Fassbender in this movie! As a villain of course.

Althought Fassbender would be cool as John Carter too.

c'mon deathmetal....we all know that hobbits don't exist, and no one goes running around in a bat suit either.

The original stories were really more fantasies than science fiction. Even though ERB sure tried hard to make it sciency.....light rays that only exist on Mars and are used to propel their airships, etc. I hope they use all that stuff!
