The folks from IGN have finally debuted what promotion has been leading up to these past couple weeks; the 2nd official theatrical trailer. Featuring some of what was teased earlier, and of course all-new footage, check it out below.

From Academy Award(R)-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes John Carter–a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). “John Carter” is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.
The film releases March 9 2012.

Nothing about this looks interesting. I looks like Avatar 2: Electric Boogaloo. Maybe it's just because the trailer told me absolutely nothing except: it's like the arena scene from Attack of the clones, except its an entire movie. I'll wait for reviews to come out first.

@imnotahero just like to let you know Star Wars and Avatar heavily and i mean heavily were influenced off John Carter Of Mars

which was published in 1917

Man, I knew people would jump the gun and get ecstatic over this. This site will never change. How does this movie not look a lot of things that have already came before it... ?

Hope it's good, but I've got a feeling we've got another Tron: Legacy on our hands.

@ SuspenseSmith Stanton only directed: WALL·E, Finding Nemo, and A Bug's Life. I'll give you 'Wall-E" is great but the other two movies are FAR from "Perfect". Also Brad Bird is definitely higher up on the scale than Stanton.

Very excited for this.....but.....just watched it in 1080P on my flatscreen, and the CG looked sketchy.

And I guess it's not your fault if you don't know, but JOHN CARTER has been the inspiration for just about EVERY sci-fi movie considered CLASSIC. Dune, Star Wars, Flash Gordon, etc...I think it's written around 1915. The books are certainly the oldest SCI-FI novels I know of. My point is that the only reason certain elements seem familiar is because THIS is where they all came from.

I hope this movie awesome. The source material certainly deserves it.

That's...amazing. I can't say much since I'm yet to read the books and all, but I'm definitely stoked for this. Mark Strong is looking awesome as usual, additionally. What I'm still wondering is the cameo from Avatar there (seriously, can anyone tell me about it?)...but whatever, this looks great. :)

What I'd hate is this film to do horrible just cause people are gonna look at it as it copying films like Dune, Star Wars, & Avatar when in reality it's the OTHER way around. All those films were influenced by the one and only John Carter.

This is going to be a sleeper for sure. No one knows anything about him. I'm old and I've read a lot of his stories and had a lot of his comics. I really want this to be great. I love the old pulp stories and this stuff. A good Flash Gordon and Tarzan is next I hope, maybe a Doc Savage.....wheeee!

Only thing im worried about though is i saw and heard a couple of cheesey one liners in there...I hope it isnt like that the whole through....apart from that..

It looks pretty good!

Taylor Kitsch is over-acting a tad to mcuh..."GET ON!"
That part and the whole speech seemed to be to fake.

Lynn makes the perfect Dejah Thoris...I just wish they would show more skin. To bad Disney made it.

Still looks pretty damn good!

Did Page & Plant actually license "Kashmir" for a Disney trailer....? More Signs of the Apocalypse after the break....

Anyho, looks epic. Although I agree with tweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeenkies that it woulda been awesome if somebody else besides Disney had made it and we could see Dejah Thoris in all her butt nekkid glory.
