Warner Bros. has officially announced that Todd Philips' standalone Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix as The Clown Prince of Crime will hit theaters on October 4, 2019.
The release date and title - as rumored, the movie will be known simply as "Joker" - were revealed in the buildup to San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, where we will hopefully discover a lot more about the project, which is described as an “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.”
Joker is set to commence production this September, so scheduling a release date just 13 months later is certainly ambitious for a big studio picture - even one with a relatively small budget of $55 million. The film is also set to open just under a month before Wonder Woman 2.
Tell us, are you excited to see Joaquin Phoenix suit-up as the icomic Batman baddie? Sound off in the usual place.
