The Guys at Empire had a chat with Malkovitch at the Karlovy Vary film festival and he has this to say...
"I love Josh Brolin – he's a friend of mine," Malkovich told us, "and he said, 'Would you be interested?' And I like the guy, Jimmy Hayward, who's directing him, so I said, 'Sure.' "
"It was fun. It's based on an American comic book from the 70s. Might do OK! I play a plantation-owner called Quentin Turnbull, who holds Jonah Hex responsible for the death of his son in the Civil War – it's set right after the American Civil War. 1872, I think it's set in. It's Josh, Megan and Michael Fassbender, who's terrific.”
It's worth noting that Malkovich doesn't hint at any of the voodoo practicing that was originally reportedly a part of his character. It also confirms that the Hex/Turnbull backstory remains largely the same as the comics. The rest, however, will have to wait until we see the film sometime around August 2010.
Also the fact he says "Might do ok" says to me he isn't that sure of himself or the movie...
What do you guys think?
