Is Malkovitch putting a Hex on Jonah??

The quirky actor doesn't sound all that enthused. Says he thinks it "MIGHT do ok?" Sheesh John! Way to get behind your comic book movie!

The Guys at Empire had a chat with Malkovitch at the Karlovy Vary film festival and he has this to say...

"I love Josh Brolin – he's a friend of mine," Malkovich told us, "and he said, 'Would you be interested?' And I like the guy, Jimmy Hayward, who's directing him, so I said, 'Sure.' "

"It was fun. It's based on an American comic book from the 70s. Might do OK! I play a plantation-owner called Quentin Turnbull, who holds Jonah Hex responsible for the death of his son in the Civil War – it's set right after the American Civil War. 1872, I think it's set in. It's Josh, Megan and Michael Fassbender, who's terrific.”

It's worth noting that Malkovich doesn't hint at any of the voodoo practicing that was originally reportedly a part of his character. It also confirms that the Hex/Turnbull backstory remains largely the same as the comics. The rest, however, will have to wait until we see the film sometime around August 2010.

Also the fact he says "Might do ok" says to me he isn't that sure of himself or the movie...

What do you guys think?

Cheers for him. He still may have his soul!

Malky is a wierd one. But Jonah Hex is a quality title and I am extremely enthusiastic about this movie.
I have a good feeling about it.

@ teabag - OF COURSE. Supermike predicts the future. Can you imagine? When Cartoon Network dies (due to the overexposure of Live Action) where will they bury all their cartoons??

Yeah he is an odd guy and he's over critical of himself and his films. For him to say "it'll do ok" means it's going to rock the casbah.

When's the last time that a western kicked ass at the box office??? That's probably what he ment by "MIGHT do OK". It is very rare that a western dominates the box office. In my book, a third place is OK but maybe not for him. Who knows really.

I agree with Keven. Y'all are reading too much into this. I think he thinks the movie is a simple, fun adventure, but you never really know if something's going to be a huge hit or a terrible flop.

Yeah I think this is just Malkovitch being Malkovitch.

And by the way, I actually didn't mind MUTANT CHRONICLES. It was a b-movie for sure, but it was an entertaining view for a boring tuesday night. A bit odd, but very stylistic.
