EXCLUSIVE: Justice League Movie Is a Go

Marvel Studios' Avengers film isn't the only superhero team coming to theaters, Warner Bros and DC Entertainment are already planning a Justice League movie; but with a twist.

Several weeks ago, Warner Bros announced they are planning to fill the gap left by the culmination of the Harry Potter franchise with DC superhero films. With "Green Lantern" due out in theaters next summer, along with the third installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman, and a rebooted Superman film the following year, fans were beginning to wonder how soon it would be for these heroes came together into one ensemble movie. Now we're a few steps closer.

A Justice League of America film has been given the tentative green light by Warner Bros. Though the film is still in its very, very early stages (no script has been officially worked on, but the basic plot is outlined). Actors are quietly being pursued to test for the roles. The big surprise is the current team roster: Green Lantern, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter. That's right, folks, no Superman or Batman; at least not yet. The film will be used to introduce Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter to general audiences. Both Green Lantern and The Flash movies will have already been released in theaters, so there would be no need to delve into their origins. Either Superman or Batman, or both, could eventually make their way into the script; though at this time the studio is slowly moving forward without their inclusion. Several comics series, including the team's first outing in "The Brave and the Bold," have worked quite well without Batman and Superman as a part of the initial team.

With the role of Green Lantern already taken by actor Ryan Reynolds, four slots are waiting to be filled. Can a JLA film meet the expectations of fans, and gain general audience approval, without the inclusion of DC Comics' "big two" heroes? Fans will have to wait and see.

They'll have to put at least some action by the water. I think that's why Aquaman gets made fun of so much. He's a water based hero who has to team up with the likes of Batman and Superman who constantly save urban areas, nowhere near water. Namor has the same problem, but he's badass enough to the point where he doesn't care. If there's stuff going on, he's leavin' Atlantis for a piece of the action.

It's like having the Avengers with no Captain America or Thor, and us Marvel fans thought we had it bad without the Pym's.

I can understand them saying they are not using them now though since Superman hasn't even been rebooted yet and Batman will most likely not be the Nolan version. They are probably going to add them later once they are rebooted. I would not be suprised if they added Supe's from the reboot and save Batman for the sequel, after the Nolan version has been rebooted.

I'd rather have a Justice league movie with a different cast than one without the big 2.
It's gonna be like that JLA pilot *shudders*

Wow! I have partial woody. lol ;)

Can't do this film without SuperMan, BatMan or Green Arrow!

DC & WB better rethink this. :P

No, it's like in the comics. Bats and Supes weren't in the original JL appearance, just these 5 were. I think it's a pretty good idea, and can't wait to hear more.

I know I will get flack for this, but that doesn't really sound like a bad idea to me in theory. One of my favorite DC stories is Identity Crisis, which features less prominent DC characters.

@actorkidrox- They could have the Super Twins and have Aquaman hang out with the guy who changes into water.
Superzero
Superzero - 8/5/2010, 7:58 PM
Well wasn't there a JLA movie in the works that had a team recovering from a dead Superman and a MIA Batman? Hell, I'll still go see this but seriously? NO superman or Batman? Does DC/WB really feel the need to capitalize off of The Avengers THAT badly? I'd sooner wait for a Wonderwoman movie, a Flash movie, a new Superman movie, and someone else playing Batman (although crossing fingers for Bale) and THEN a JLA movie. Like always DC will have to learn how to do things the right way from MARVEL. By the way, I still have my FOOM pin! :-P

Avengers can carry without Spiderman or Wolverine cause they have big names like Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and Hulk in it

But how can DC afford to do Justice League without their 2 A list heroes, is this Chris Nolan having some say so, I hope not. How can DC sell it without those 2?

Thay may be just kidding. But if it happen it´s Nolan´s fault. He said that fifn´t want another heroues in Batverse.

On a scale of 1 to 10 of epically stupid creative decisions, this ranks right up there with making "G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero" an international team.

By the way, exactly what "source" is this taken from? Until I see one, I'm not exactly thinking this is for real.

Er... what? This isn't like the Avengers not having the Wasp and Ant Man. These are two legendary staples of the team. Im not a justice league fan exactly, but those two have such a long association with the team how do you not include them?

Hell yeah for a JLA film.....but NO SUPES OR BATS:--( I hope as DC/WB are writing the script, they will hear the fans and give them their 2 fav leaders of DC. Still glad to see the rest of the original seven but Supes and Bats are what make JLA so iconic.

@captainoffer Ant-Man and Wasp may be staples of Avengers, but are they up there with Batman and Superman? Who knows why they arent in Avengers but their omission is clearly not up there as Batman and Superman
