CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS Producers Confirm Sequel Will Feature Cameos From Other DC Franchises (Exclusive)

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part One's creative team talk us through their approach to cameos in this trilogy, confirming Part Two will feature familiar faces from other DC franchises...

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part One sets out to adapt the comic book of the same name and it will do so over the course of not one, but three movies.

The CW previously adapted the beloved story for the Arrowverse, but animation frees up the creative team to get a little more inventive with cameos and the visuals seen on screen. However, those of you who have watched the first instalment [Minor SPOILER Alert] will know it doesn't feature any heroes or villains from other animated projects.

That includes the "Tuckerverse" and TV shows like Teen Titans GO! and Batman: The Animated Series, a shame considering the fact those characters all fall under the same DC banner at Warner Bros.

There are still tonnes of reasons to watch this first chapter (including the fact it's a stellar story about The Flash) but based on what Crisis executive producers Butch Lukic and Jim Krieg recently told us, the biggest surprises are yet to come, making Part Two another must-watch.

Jim, you’ve been overseeing the Tomorrowverse from the start but did you consider bringing any characters from other DC animated franchises into this movie or was it too complicated?

Jim: Well, ask me that question again two movies from now!

Butch: We talked about that very early on. It was a thing we discussed even when we started the whole cycle of Tomorrowverse movies.

Jim: We talked about it from Man of Tomorrow. It was a challenge because the animation styles can be so drastically different and they clash a little bit. Hopefully…well, we’ll see what happens.

Butch: In the second movie, you’ll see one or two characters from other animated universes.

We're sure speculation will go into overdrive about who these "one or two" characters might be and it's hard not to hope they're some big-name fan-favourites. Either way, it was still a blast to watch so many DC heroes - some even hardcore fans might not recognise - share the screen in this opening instalment.

Our full interview with Crisis' creative team will go live this weekend; in the meantime, you can watch our conversation in the player above.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part One is now available on Digital and arrives on 4K UHD in limited edition SteelBook packaging and Blu-ray starting January 23.

Parts Two and Three of the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy will debut later in 2024.

Based on DC's iconic comic book limited series 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, join DC Super Heroes from across the multiverse in the first of three parts of DC’s new animated film Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part One, which marks the beginning of the end to the Tomorrowverse story arc.

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, the all-new, action-packed DC animated film features some of DC’s most famous Super Heroes from multiple universes including Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, who come together to stop an impending threat of doom and destruction.

What’s the Tuckerverse?

@tb86 - It’s a series of the animated scenes movies that released between Flashpoint Paradox and the new ‘Tommorowverse’. I’ve never heard it referred to this way until this article so had to look it up. Apparently a guy named James Tucker produced a lot of the movies

@tb86 - Usually referred to as the DCAMU (DC Animated Movie Universe). It's the New 52-inspired animated universe that began with the last couple of scenes of The Flashpoint Paradox and went into Justice League: War, Son of Batman and their various sequels and spin-offs.

But before then, people would refer to the Batman: The Brave and the Bold as the Tuckerverse too. But I think their talking about the former.

@tb86 - It's the crapfest that was The New 52-inspired animated movies, almost all of which were awful... just like The New 52.

I’m assuming instead of folding in the new trailer for Part 2 that recently released that specifically reveals one of the characters you’re alluding to, you’re going to make a whole new article just for that

@CerealKiller1 - Just seen that you posted the new trailer an hour ago on the animation sister site, so you actually knew writing this article the trailer was out and who one of the characters was, what a surprise

It'll be Christian bale

...as Patrick Bateman

@Origame - One of the early DC Universe DTVs was actually a spin-off of the Nolanverse, so we could technically get a Christian Bale Batman cameo (but based on the Kevin Conroy animated version of Christian Bale's Batman).

But um, probably not Patrick Bateman, lol. I mean, who knows. Maybe.

"One or two characters" is better than nothing I suppose. Hope he's under-exaggerating.

I really liked Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. Can anyone say how Infinite Crisis compares to Two Earths?

@lazlodaytona - Much bigger and different story and ramifications. Both great watches IMO.

The Judas Contract, Grant Morrison's Batman & Robin, Hush, The Long Halloween, COIE. So many iconic DC storylines adapted like shit. No respect to the source material or the artists. Imagine if they were all treated with the same level of care as The Dark Knight Returns' movie. We could have had some of the best DC Animated movies of all time. What a waste.

They should have Tom Welling as his version of Superman

How about about they just bring back Timm and Dini's DCAU?
ObserverIO

They talk about the difficulty in having different animated styles merging. But they should learn this lesson from The Flash movie:

Archive footage is your friend.

No need to make it too difficult, like they did with the Chronobowl sequence in The Flash. Just show archive footage. You can even get live action in there that way. Like in TMNT: Turtles Forever or Spider-Man: Across The Spider-verse. Surely the Monitor has some Monitor screens right?
