Most of us figured it was inevitable, and now Variety is reporting that there are some big changes in the works ar Warner Bros. in the aftermath of Justice League's disappointing box office run.

The trade has revealed that Jon Berg - who had been in charge of overseeing the DCEU along with Geoff Johns - will be leaving his current position, and a replacement is now being sought. Though Johns will stay on as DC Entertainment’s chief creative officer, it seems the studio is "expected to name a new person to run point on DC’s films."

What about Zack Snyder, you may ask?

Well, according to this report, there are no immediate plans for Snyder to direct another DC movie - though he will remain on as executive producer for Aquaman and Wonder Woman 2.

The shakeup is set to take place in January.

What do you guys make of this news? Did you expect something like this, or were you anticipating a more drastic overhaul in the form of a reboot?

Rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic?

@ThePott - Berg was the DCEU's Kevin Feige, in terms of position. The only hope to get a great DC movie, one day, ever, was with his departure. They had to do it. They're not rearranging chairs, they're changing boats. At least Captains.

@Asturgis - Berg is certainly not their Feige, he's only been a producer on Wonder Woman and Justice League. He oversaw production on Justice League on behalf of WB. Johns would be a much closer comparison.

Berg is a scapegoat, change would only come from a change at the top. Berg was upped to his position post- BvS, The main offenders are still there. This is just a fall guy.

@ThePott -

Nobody has been fired. Berg stepped down to produce another film. Geoff Johns was heavily involved with Wonder Woman, so he's not going anywhere. They're just looking for Berg's replacement to handle the business end.

@Battabing - I never said fired but the it is clear. This is a restructuring of DC in the wake of Justice League. Stepping aside to become a production partner is just an attempt to save face. Don't believe for a second that if JL worked out that he wouldn't have been involved in other DC productions as well.

I never said Johns was going anywhere just that he was a more apt comparison. Also Berg is a producer on Wonder Woman, I think Johns stays on or as the article suggests into a more advisory role presumably over the whole universe something which is clearly needed at DC. The higher-ups can easily deal with the business end along with the multitude of divisions at WB.

Make no mistake this is meant to give the appearance of change but likely won't make any real difference while DC is under WB and the same hierarchy are involved with no clear voice or figure.

@ThePott - I disagree about Johns, but technically, yes, I guess the DCEU's equivalent of Feige would be Diane Nelson, one rank above Berg.

There is no DC Studios like there is a Marvel Studios Feige is the President of, and Louis d'Esposito the Co-President of. There is DC Entertainment, a subsidiary of Warner, ran by Diane Nelson, President, and Jon Berg, Vice-President, and official head of DC Films. Geoff Johns is the President and CCO of DC Comics, not Entertainment, also under Diane Nelson. Johns and Berg were both named co-runners of the DCEU, but legally, Johns is DC Comics and Berg Warner Entertainment. You can't hold a glorified writer from DC Comics accountable for this shitshow, but the head of DC Films who is producing the movies and answers to DC Entertainment's President and runs the DCEU for her? Absolutely. Berg was a producer on WW, JL, and is on everything coming up the pipe, including Aquaman, Flashpoint, Sirens, Batgirl and so on. It's time he went his way.

So, technically, I guess the DCEU's Feige is Nelson, but Berg is the right level of responsibility.

@Asturgis - They DID manage to churn out Wonder Woman. I thought it was a tad overrated, but over all, very good. I'm still happy that they're realizing they done goofed a little though. Flashpoint reboot? I'm not terribly well versed in DC but I'm aware of the story, trying to purchase it soon.

@Asturgis - I meant Johns as a leader from a creative perspective or at least that's what he was presented as initially. I was never holding Johns responsible as I stated it speaks to a problem higher up the chain.

Your comment here though clearly speaks to the bigger issue at DC. There's a whole chain of command with little clear leadership aside from the WB executives.

I don't believe Berg is a producer on any upcoming DC films, Imdb and the article seem to indicate that he isn't.

Also I believe DC entertainment and DC films are seperate so Dian Nelson likely doesn't apply either. You're correct in saying that there is no DC studios like a Marvel studios and based on this they cannot really have their own Feige at least from a leadership standpoint as there is so much micromanagement going on and the films reflect this. Berg was chosen as he is from the WB side of the film division essentially think of Johns as the comics element and Berg as the business side. WB are getting rid of their 'corporate man' in Berg but are going to replace him with another suit, its simply giving the appearance of change.

@ThePott - Yeah, it is really complicated and hard to follow, for sure, but I can assure you Berg is on iMDB as a Producer for Flashpoint, Gotham City Sirens, Batgirl, Green Lantern Corps, Aquaman and Deathstroke, I just checked.

Also, Diane Nelson is the one who named Geoff Johns President and CCO of DC Comics, and she's also the one who named Berg President of DC Entertainment, and also the one who named the both of them co-runners of DC Films. It might be a separate entity and another subsidiary, that I really don't know, but I'm 100% they both report to her. Contrary to the CW shows who report to Mark Pedowitz.

@ThePott - Funny you should mention the Titanic with his name being Berg

ThePott - 12/7/2017, 11:51 PM
@Asturgis - That's strange when I checked his Imdb originally those credits weren't there. Again I'm not sure if Diane Nelson has as much of a say as she gets credit for. The reason that Diane Nelson appointed them was because there was no DC films subdivision until after BvS, so I imagine they had the DC entertainment head appoint them due to her familiarity with the brand.

As long as DC are under the WB's roof they'll be the ones calling the shots not anyone under a DC title.

@Asturgis - Thank you for this.
I always find it very interesting to know who is in change of what at these big companies and know where all the knots in the chain of command are.

OMG I clicked on this article praying to the goddess Jessica Lucas that Berg was finally a goner, and he is.
