What Makes JUSTICE LEAGUE The Ultimate Fan Edition Better?
YouTuber 'YourMovieFix' has dedicated hard work into making his own version of the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie which improves upon the original. Find out how the Ultimate Fan Edition is better!
The Ultimate Fan Edition, which was created by Youtuber 'YourMovieFix', truly improves on certain areas that the theatrical version got wrong. While the movie obviously doesn't improve on the overall story, this new version sure as hell does improve on soundtracks, removing unnecessary scenes, removing wonky CGI and so much more.
Let's start with music. Now while I have nothing against Danny Elfman, it's fair to say that he didn't really add depth into the music that was used in the theatrical version. Fans had hoped Whedon would re-use soundtracks created by Hans Zimmer in the previous DCEU movies, Man of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, Whedon completely disregarded this. The Ultimate Fan Edition adds in the soundtracks used by Hans Zimmer and even the Junkie XL soundtrack which was cut from the movie after he was fired by Whedon. The Ultimate Fan Edition uses several soundtracks, some of the following being: 'Beautiful Lie', 'Goodbye my son', 'Flight' and the final battle soundtrack between Zod and Superman. None of the soundtracks are out of place or edited badly, in fact all of them felt natural to the scenes they were put into and made the scenes even better. It's a shame Whedon didn't just go with soundtracks previosly created by Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL.
Now I won't mention all the scenes that were removed and the scenes that were added because there are too many, however, I will speak about ones that stood out to me and improved on the overall quality of the film. I'll start with my personal favourite scene that was added when Cyborg was removing the three mother-boxes from one another. In that moment we get a short look of the knightmare scene that was shown in Batman V Superman but more so, we get a short and quick shot of Darkseid. I don't know if the creator of this edition edited Darkseid into the movie or if he used some leaked footage/photo and implemented it but I can say this, it was super impressive. It looked quite fantastic to say the least and I was blown when I saw it. You know that epic "This world will fall" speech by Steppenwolf that was put into the trailers of the movie that unnecessarily got cut? Yeah we got it back here and it was perfect! Thankfully, this edition gets rid of the cringe-worthy forced humor in the scene between Lois Lane and Martha Kent when they were discussing Lois Lane going back to writing appealing articles. They also got rid of that god-awful line that Whedon added in for Batman, "I didn't bring a sword" and instead added back what originally was meant to be said as he was saving Wonder Woman, as well as the "something is definitely bleeding" line.
Something else this edition done well was excluding scenes with bad CGI, and of course when I say that I'm referring to Superman's wonky CGI. Thankfully they got rid of scenes that made Superman look ridiculous. Now, this version gets rid of quite a lot of scenes, so you're probably wondering how they made the movie be as long as it needed to be? Well, in certain scenes that required it, they would add snips of flashbacks from Man of Steel and Batman V Superman. The execution for this was perfect and added so much more depth into the scenes with flashbacks included. For example, Martha seeing Clark for the first time and hugging him for the first time again was accompanied by short scenes of when Clark was a child and his struggle to be accepted into the world. Another example of this is when Superman sees Batman for the first time again, the following scene had a short shot of Batman in the armor he used when fighting Superman in BvS. The last example I'll use is one I enjoyed seeing most, when Lois asks Clark what it was like to come back, we get a few quick flashbacks of Superman suffering in his fight against Doomsday and Batman. This also meant they were able to get rid of the excessive attention the Russian family got in the theatrical version.
Look by no means do I think Justice League is perfect regardless of this fan edition, the root of its issue comes from a lack of good storytelling and a mediocre villain. However, this edition does improve upon some mistakes of the theatrical cut even if those issues are minor. It just comes to show that with more depth and better storytelling, Justice League could've been so much better but it wasn't. Since watching Justice League I've kind of started giving up hope on the DCEU, despite my bias rating of 9/10 for this movie... (I do not rate it this high at all after my second viewing). In saying that, I do think if given the right directors, writers and producers, DCEU movies could be good. Look at what Patty Jenkins did for Wonder Woman, even Man Of Steel was great.
What did you think though? Have you seen the Ultimate Edition? If not, I'll be leaving a link for those who want to check it out:
