RUMOR: We Have Not Seen The Last Of The ETERNALS In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Despite rumors to the contrary, it seems we may not have seen the last of the heroic, immortal androids known as the Eternals in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after all...

Filed Under: Eternals

We've heard conflicting reports about an Eternals sequel over the years, but at this stage, another movie revolving around the team of immortal androids is looking less and less likely. That doesn't mean we won't see any of the characters again, however.

According to Alex Perez in his latest Discord Q&A, the Eternals "are not done for. There’ll be more about it in the next saga."

Eternals has its defenders, but it's hardly surprising that Marvel isn't in any rush to revisit these characters. Chloé Zhao's divisive 2021 superhero epic not only had the dubious honor of being the first Marvel Studios movie to drop to "rotten" status on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, but also finishing up its U.S. run with a disappointing $164.9 million to give it one of the lowest domestic hauls of any MCU-set film.

Even so, we appeared to get confirmation that a follow-up was in the early planning stages when Game of Thrones alum Kit Harington (who made his MCU debut as Dane Whitman in the movie) suggested that the project had been scrapped.

Our last update from Kevin Feige at D23 Brazil last year was at least somewhat hopeful, when he said he was "very proud of that movie, that cast was incredible. We’d be lucky to get any of them back at some point.”

Cast members don't seem quite so optimistic about a potential MCU return, however.

Lauren Ridloff (Makkari) was recently asked by The Direct if we can expect to see the Eternals in the MCU again now that the new Avengers movies are preparing to shoot. "Not likely. I don't know, my magic eight-ball is telling me, 'Not likely.'"

Tiamut did appear in Captain America: Brave New World, but the gigantic Celestial was only used as a plot device to introduce Adamantium to the MCU. It's difficult to imagine Marvel completely disregarding everything else associated with Eternals, but at the same time, we're not sure which planned big or small screen projects make sense to facilitate their return.

Would you like to see the Eternals back in the MCU? Let us know in the comments section down below.

Marvel Studios’ Eternals follows a group of heroes from beyond the stars who had protected the Earth since the dawn of man. When monstrous creatures called the Deviants, long thought lost to history, mysteriously return, the Eternals are forced to reunite in order to defend humanity once again.

The outstanding ensemble cast includes Gemma Chan as humankind-loving Sersi, Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as cosmic-powered Kingo, Lia McHugh as the eternally young, old-soul Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as the intelligent inventor Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as the super-fast Makkari, Barry Keoghan as aloof loner Druig, Don Lee as the powerful Gilgamesh, with Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, with Salma Hayek as the wise and spiritual leader Ajak, and Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena.

@MakeAmericaGrea - heya, squishy!

Couple things:

1) Sinners, a movie directed and written by a black dude, starring mostly a black cast, featuring racially charged subject matter, AND is a rated-R vampire horror period piece, is a smash hit.

2) Moana 2, a movie with a “girl boss” female lead who is non-white, grossed a billion dollars.

3) Lilo and Stitch, a movie featuring two non-white female leads, is well on its way to a billion dollars.

So keep up your whining about woke, bro. It’s definitely working.Boycotts, amirite?

Change literally everything about yourself, little boy.

@KennKathleen - I don't know how you can just leave Eternals' ending unresolved. I mean a LIVE Celestial appeared and the entire planet witnessed it. I know Daredevil won't worry about but surely SOMEBODY higher up would be concerned.

@rychlec - I don't know about that man, between the alien invasions, the flying country that got obliterated mid-air, the mere existence of Thor, and the wiping-out & subsequent coming back of 50% of all life forms, I think people in the MCU are starting to see this sort of thing as just another Tuesday.

@OrgasmicPotatoe - That's what I was thinking while watching the climactic battle in Thunderbolts. Thing is, the same desensitization would have to hold for the actual 616, which is to say Marvel Comics.

All the worst MCU movies and shows, there are at least a dozen altogether now, are enjoyed by a minority people.

@AllsGood -

Let's have a serious moment.

What are your least favorite MCU movies and shows?

What are some missteps you think the MCU filmmakers have taken?
mountainman
mountainman - 5/31/2025, 9:47 AM
@AllsGood - It was a cool concept with poor execution. Most people found it to be a boring slog. Some interesting concepts and characters for sure, but it was really just there. The deviants were lame villains.

A better version of it would have spent more of the runtime showing each of the Eternals over time trying to steer humanity for good, so that the “twist” of them working for Arishem who would destroy the Earth would have been more impactful.

It tried to be more of a high brow concept movie, the concepts and themes weren’t fleshed out well enough to be iloactful.

Let's be fair.

There are probably thousands of fans of the Eternals movie.

Somehow Brandon, Heels Up Harris, Gavin Nuisance, Alexandria Occasional-Cortex, and Jamsmine Crockofshit got a lot of votes.
