Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to conclude with next month's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (and the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special), and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has now summed up what he feels this latest series of movies has been about.

"[It] has been all about introductions," Feige told Marvel.com on the red carpet of this week's Wakanda Forever premiere. "Think about all the characters we've met. Finally, in the finale of Phase 4, looking at it by phases, we meet an entire new kingdom and a character who is the very foundation of what we do at Marvel."

Feige is almost certainly referring to Namor's (Tenoch Huerta) underwater realm of Talokan and the debuting Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), a child prodigy who designs her own Iron Man suit and is expected to be an integral part of the MCU moving forward.

It's true that Phase 4 has served as a launching pad for future stories featuring the characters we've met over the past few years, but a lot of fans seem to feel that it has been the most disappointing phase yet. Spider-Man: No Way Home and, to a lesser extent, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings were universally praised, but the likes of Black Widow and Thor: Love and Thunder came in for a lot of criticism, and Eternals gave the studio its first "rotten" movie.

Hopefully, with these new heroes now established, Phase 5 will be able to get back on track as we build towards Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. Marvel Studios will be hoping Wakanda Forever concludes Phase 4 on a high note, and so far, the reactions have been very positive.

I saw the movie yesterday, and, in my humble opinion, it is the best Phase 4 entry by some margin (it's actually jumped right near the top of the list of my favorite MCU films).

Wasn't it about consequences?

@Origame -
I don't think it had a set theme, and I'd be fine with that if the media was good, but it's been garbage.

@McMurdo - I hate how they just gave a passing mention of the accords being repealed in she hulk. As subzero would say, such wasted potential.

Yeah, we got some good stuff but overall it was a meh phase. Not terrible as some claim, just average and not impressive as it should be, IMO.

@Fogs - That's a fair assessment. I personally really enjoyed MOST of Phase 4 and appreciated the new forms of media we got with it. TV shows, animated projects, shorts, Special Presentations, etc. But the excitement factor doesn't match that of Phase 3, for example. I do think that's to be expected tho. With setting up a whole new saga.

Here's to a big Phase 5! Marvel Studios really has to impress here.

It's about keeping shareholders happy and continuing a lucrative revenue stream. The story ended with End Game. Now it's become a commercial commitment to keeping it going.

Nothing in this phase has interested me on where it's headed to be honest. I know I'll get flack for saying it.

@BigMikeReviews - Before Phase 4, the Phases were dominated mostly by sequels, Avengers films, and the occasional risk like Guardians of the Galaxy.

Phase 4 has included unique shows that brought different genres, risks like Eternals, new heroes like Shang-Chi, and yes sequels, some more successful than others. And the introduction of Kang who will already show up more than Thanos as part of an ongoing story.

This whole Marvel is Dead or MCU ended with Endgame narrative is so disengenous at this point. The MCU has never been more creative than it is right now. Sadly its been more of a mixed bag in terms of criticism, but what did you expect when it comes to innovating the winning formula that these same naysayers kept screaming 'do something different' until they actually did.

@BigMikeReviews - LMAO yeah, the constant three-movie-per-year corporate machine USED TO BE about art, only now is it about money.

Clown behavior.

@BigMikeReviews - I agree with you. The whole thing was building up to, and ended with, EndGame. Now, if they introduce the X-Men ON THEIR OWN, and not part of the existing MCU, we'll have another "franchise" to watch, with new stories and situations. If they cram them into the existing MCU, like I figure they will, it'll just be adding more ingredients to the stew.

@Ravenous - you are right, and the majority agrees with you. Haters are gonna hate. It's sad that they haven't learned by now that their hate is just wasted energy, but oh well. Let's keep enjoying the awesome stuff Marvel is putting out while other continue to channel their inner Karen lol.

@Ravenous - Guardians was the opposite of risky. It was the copy and pasted plot of Avengers 2012 with extra jokes. It was far safer than riskier despite the audience not knowing the chars

Phase IV has been the most experimental the MCU has been thus far, and I can only be thankful for them breaking the mold once again. That said, it shoudl also be rremembered that said experimentation could by definition never feel as climactic (therefore satisfying) to audiences as Phase III before it.

The respective previouis phase I feel like it ought be compared to is Phase I, and in relevant to that one, I feel like IV stands above. At the same time, however, it's almost imcomparable when the amount of content is compared.

Plus, one criticism I'll agree with is that while it clearly builds the greater Multiverse Saga, at the same time it clearly did not build towards a climactic Avengers-like finale that Phases I through III had each.

All in all, too much fuss for something I feel has not been appreciated yet.
