Marvel Studios Rumored To Be Developing A UK-Set Series - Will Captain Britain Make His MCU Debut?

A new rumour suggests Marvel Studios is moving forward with a Disney+ TV series focusing on the UK's superheroes, including characters from Eternals and Secret Invasion. Will Captain Britain soon follow?

In Secret Invasion, we were introduced to Olivia Colman's Sonya Falsworth. The series never explicitly stated it, but comic book readers - or MCU fans who pay close attention - will know that she's related to James Montgomery Falsworth, a member of Captain America: The First Avenger's Howling Commandos.

Emilia Clarke also took centre stage as G'iah, Talos' daughter and a shape-shifting Skrull who later became the MCU's most powerful superbeing after becoming a Super-Skrull.

During Secret Invasion's closing moments, she was recruited by Sonya for what appeared to be a future spin-off. Now, we have word on what that's likely to be courtesy of scooper Daniel Richtman. Apparently, Marvel Studios is developing a Disney+ TV series about a group of superheroes - Excalibur, presumably - based in the UK.

It's said that Kit Harington's Dane Whitman will return here, presumably suiting up as Black Knight. Eternals laid the groundwork for that, and even teased a role for the character in Blade, only for that idea to have been scrapped in the years since.

There's no mention of Captain Britain, but this would surely be the best possible place for that character to debut. Marvel Studios has missed a trick not introducing Brian Braddock before now, particularly as the Captain Britain Corps are key players in the Multiverse.

It's possible he was tied up in the X-Men rights, of course, with Brian's sister, Betsy (a.k.a. Psylocke) now holding the mantle.

Marvel Studios has set several MCU movies in the UK, including Thor: The Dark World and Spider-Man: Far From Home. However, a series putting the spotlight on the country's many superheroes - Union Jack is another - is an idea with plenty of potential.

The last significant update on Captain Britain came from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige six years ago when he said, "We have discussed it. There are a lot of actors that come in and ask about that part, so we’ll have to see." It's unclear what the delay is, but he may not be a character the executive is overly excited by.

Captain Britain was created by Chris Claremont and Herb Trimpe and debuted in 1976. Endowed with superhuman abilities by the mystical Amulet of Right, Captain Britain is a patriotic hero who defends the UK and the Multiverse; however, it's Alan Moore's work on the character which put him on the map.

As always, stay tuned for details on this rumoured series as we have them.

In a way I'm kinda glad I don't read marvel books because it makes the tv and movie experience more exciting for me.

That 34% tax break for filming in the UK can see why from a fiscal POV it would appeal and ample they could do with the likes of Blade, Black Knight, the Braddocks, Excalibur and even Moon Knight potentialy if he returns to being a UK resident...

...if it will be good or not, and if they can find a way to make G'iah work (what with how OP they made her) remains to be seen but can see potential if they nail a solid narrative and scripts.

@Apophis71 - They don't actually need UK characters just so they can film in the UK. They've already filmed there.

@GeneralChaos - This is true, but easier to do a series using UK landmarks than having to change everything in post production and heavily CGI dependant as a result.

@Apophis71 - They aren't going to do a series just so they can use UK landmarks - especially if it's cheaper to keep filming in Georgia like they have the past decade.

I actually believe this rumor. Lets get Kit and Emilia back together sounds great in a marketing room. No way you are doing a super hero team up right on D+ with those budget limits.

Also, G'iah is one of the worst girl boss characters to come out of the MCU. Add that to the better than Nick Fury girl boss Olivia Colman and you have a winner.

Maybe Kit will just walk around the entire series saying "shes my queen."

No, it did not.

@grendelthing - 'Set in' maybe pushing it a tad, tended to be multiple locations not just Britain over the course of te story...

...but been major scenes set in and even entire last acts set in the UK with several films such as Thor Dark World and Far from Home plus multiple more with scenes shot in the UK even if for stuff not actualy set in Britain like New Asgard (in reality the village is in Scotland not Norway as it is supposed to be).
