In Secret Invasion, we were introduced to Olivia Colman's Sonya Falsworth. The series never explicitly stated it, but comic book readers - or MCU fans who pay close attention - will know that she's related to James Montgomery Falsworth, a member of Captain America: The First Avenger's Howling Commandos.
Emilia Clarke also took centre stage as G'iah, Talos' daughter and a shape-shifting Skrull who later became the MCU's most powerful superbeing after becoming a Super-Skrull.
During Secret Invasion's closing moments, she was recruited by Sonya for what appeared to be a future spin-off. Now, we have word on what that's likely to be courtesy of scooper Daniel Richtman. Apparently, Marvel Studios is developing a Disney+ TV series about a group of superheroes - Excalibur, presumably - based in the UK.
It's said that Kit Harington's Dane Whitman will return here, presumably suiting up as Black Knight. Eternals laid the groundwork for that, and even teased a role for the character in Blade, only for that idea to have been scrapped in the years since.
There's no mention of Captain Britain, but this would surely be the best possible place for that character to debut. Marvel Studios has missed a trick not introducing Brian Braddock before now, particularly as the Captain Britain Corps are key players in the Multiverse.
It's possible he was tied up in the X-Men rights, of course, with Brian's sister, Betsy (a.k.a. Psylocke) now holding the mantle.
Marvel Studios has set several MCU movies in the UK, including Thor: The Dark World and Spider-Man: Far From Home. However, a series putting the spotlight on the country's many superheroes - Union Jack is another - is an idea with plenty of potential.
The last significant update on Captain Britain came from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige six years ago when he said, "We have discussed it. There are a lot of actors that come in and ask about that part, so we’ll have to see." It's unclear what the delay is, but he may not be a character the executive is overly excited by.
Captain Britain was created by Chris Claremont and Herb Trimpe and debuted in 1976. Endowed with superhuman abilities by the mystical Amulet of Right, Captain Britain is a patriotic hero who defends the UK and the Multiverse; however, it's Alan Moore's work on the character which put him on the map.
As always, stay tuned for details on this rumoured series as we have them.
