Miles Teller On FANTASTIC FOUR: "The More Superhero Stuff You Get To Do, The Cooler It Is"

With a flurry of other comic book movie properties on the radar right now, it's understandable to forget that there's a Fantastic Four film released in five months. However, Miles Teller has reminded us about it, and the 2017 sequel, in a new interview. Take a look after the jump.

MovieFone's recent discussion with Miles Teller (who plays Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic) reiterates a lot of what we've already heard, with the Whiplash actor once again explaining that Josh Trank's film is "taking a lot from the Ultimate Fantastic Four, but I think we're humanizing these characters in a way that's never been done." However, there are a few new nuggets in there, primarily about the inevitable planned follow-up. Teller doesn't know if Trank will return to direct the next instalment, but is confident that writer/producer Simon Kinberg will remain heavily involved. "He is so good at creating those worlds," he explains. "He's invaluable to Fox. He's really smart and seems to have a good handle on these worlds and what he was able to do with X-Men and being able to re-energize that with the younger cast. Teller also addresses the progression from a science-fiction based origin story to a more superheroic sequel. "I mean, the more superhero stuff you get to do, the cooler it is. We'll see what happens, but yes, absolutely, as the thing evolves they should start to materialize to the Fantastic Four people more readily associate with." Fantastic Four is released August 7th, 2015, with the sequel set for 2017.

I've definately warmed to this movie over time. I used to HATE it, but now I've seen the trailer and read the interviews and looked at some Ultimate F4 stuff that it's based off, I'm actually pretty excited for it. The cast is pretty good, Kinberg is a great writer and I do like the more sci-fiy tone theyre going for. AOU is still my most anticipated 2015 CBM by a long shot, but this is in second place.

Sounds great. The rumors of Trank's onset disasters and production issues were completely untrue from what Kinberg indicated back in January, and they only did a few days of reshoots as opposed to the "weeks" that some sites claimed. If the reception is as good as the trailer was then I wouldn't be surprised if Trank is on board for the follow-up.

@TheBritAvenger
I agree completely. I'm really looking forward to this.

Seems like their marketing team finally told them to stop making it worse everytime they speak.
Or at least Teller because he's the only one talking about the movie

check the F4 archives on this site when Teller was cast.

CBM users going 180 real quick :p

@TheCardist Having the producer (Kinberg) debunk those rumors doesn't really hold much weight. We'll likely never know if it's true or not unless any of the actors or Kinberg/Trank open up about any issues during production in an interview and/or memoir many years/decades later or something.

@Reasonnnn I'd like to know what your problem is with someone realizing a fault in their thought process from several months ago. You must be one of those "internet people" who just can't comprehend that someone's opinions can change.
xxxxxxx
xxxxxxx - 3/21/2015, 1:52 AM
@Reasonnnn Not implying that I have any need to talk about the subject, considering you're someone who spends hours arguing over someone else's opinions as opposed to backing up your own.

@TheCardist No, I'm referring to the people who are just ignorant and said he was wrong from the get go.

And no I'm not one of THOSE PEOPLE; I try to remove as much idiocy as I can, but it's a never ending battle on this site.

Teller has a punchable face. This movie can suck the smelliest unwashed chode of a homeless person.

@Reasonnnn You can't say you're trying to "remove as much idiocy as I can" but still expect someone to apologize for an outdated and subjective opinion regarding a movie about fictional characters. As for the "never ending battle", that's the only reason I even bother to reply to you and the others who take a subjective subject from the comments of someone you don't even know and argue about them for an hour over the internet at 2:27 AM.

xxxxxxx - 3/21/2015, 2:31 AM
@Reasonnnn I'm going to go to sleep right now. If you have a worthwhile argument/interesting point then I'll address it in the morning, but aside from that I won't waste any more of my own time. Everything's subjective, so don't take the opinions of someone you don't know and blow them out of proportion.
Reasonnnn
Reasonnnn - 3/21/2015, 2:38 AM
@TheCardist None of us really know each other on this site; we're just here talking about our shared interest in comic books and everything associated with them. I only respond negatively towards people who think X is wrong due to irrational, illogical, ignorant, sexist, racist, homophobic etc reasons and that's why I put that opening jab in my first comment.

I mean just look at some of the comments in this thread at 2:37 AM, lol.

everything else you said...touché.

I'm going to see this when it comes out. I love the cast. How can you go wrong with Tobey, Kate, Miles, Jamie...I wasn't that interested in the movie until I saw the teaser. Speaking of which, did anyone get an Interstellar vibe from the teaser?

@TheBritAvenger Funny. I used to have faith in this movie before the first trailer, now every time I see some news I think: this movie will horrible.

Although, Teller keeps restoring little bits of faith in me lately.

I still have never heard a justifiable reason as to why this movie will suck?

Obvious damage control is obvious. Notice how he's gone from emphasizing how unlike the comics it is to vice versa. But hey, I ain't complaining, perhaps now it'll be easier to get hyped for this movie.

@oNosferatuZodd is a prime example of someone who is anxiously waiting to be embarrassly and shamefully proven wrong amongst the multitude of persons who were always in support of this film. His reign of humiliation is coming soon.

It's easy to forget it comes out in five months given how little Fox has done to promote it.

And the fact that it's got so much Ultimates influence is not at all what I would call a good thing.

Looks an awful lot like the Fantastic Four mainly in name only.

I'll never understand the motivation of the self-righteous, blind supporters who feel justified in attacking the short-sighted, blind depreciators based off of the same, limited facts. It's 2 sides of the same coin which loses its value in the eyes of rational ppl that realize that a person who has made up their mind so early before a reasonable critique can be made is probably going to stick to their guns to save face no matter what they truly think of the film after seeing it. Of course it's only natural to make predictions, but, when a person becomes so dedicated to their soothsaying that they become offended by the thought of someone disagreeing with them, that person has just crossed the border into Crazyland (pronounced krazee-lind for the uninitiated BTW). It's slightly funny (but mostly annoying) watching "Team Optimistic" act so entitled in the face of adverse opinions. Grow up ppl...

I'm excited for Fantastic 4 I think it could surprise people and be good. Miles is passionate about it. I think he's a good choice for Reed and Kate will be great as Sue. I'm glad they will have their costumes in the movie can't wait
