THR's Heat Vision reports that New Line is working on a brand new Police Academy feature film (maybe even a new franchise).
Police Academy, is so far just an early project announcement and has no director, writer, or cast attached to the project yet. News is however original producer Paul Maslansky will be returning for this new movie.
Here's what Maslansky says about the movie project:
"It's going to be very worthwhile to the people who remember it and to those who saw it on TV. It's going to be a new class. We hope to discover new talent and season it with great comedians. It'll be anything but another movie with a numeral next to it. And we'll most probably retain the wonderful musical theme."
Police Academy is a series of comedy films, the first six of which were made in the 1980s. The seventh and last installment, "Mission to Moscow," was released in 1994. The series opened with Police Academy (1984) which started with the premise that a new mayor had announced a policy requiring the police department to accept all willing recruits. The movie followed a group of misfit recruits in their attempts to prove themselves capable of being police officers. The main character Carey Mahoney (Steve Guttenberg) was a repeat offender who was forced to join the police academy as punishment.
The movies spawned a television show, a cartoon series, and even a Marvel comic book series.
LEEE777 - It's reported that a "Pet Cemetery" remake is in the cards, too. So, has Hollywood officially run out of ideas? Hey on a good note, I have just found out a "Midnight Run" sequel is also in the works with Robert De Niro reprising his role as Los Angeles-based bounty hunter Jack Walsh. Not all's bad, the original film was a classic.
