Bryan Singer Sexual Abuse Case Falls Apart

Bryan Singer Sexual Abuse Case Falls Apart

Remember when Days of Future Past was coming out and Bryan Singer came under fire for allegedly abusing a teenager back in the 90s? Yeah that. Looks like the case is on it's last legs.

In the build up to the release of Days of Future Past, a lawsuit was filed against director Bryan Singer alleging battery, assault, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The suit was filed by Michael Egan who claimed to have suffered sexual abuse at the age of 17 committed by Singer, along with several other Hollywood figures.

The case gained a lot of coverage, I'm sure we all remember, and Fox took the descision to remove Singer from the promotional tour, replacing him with writer Simon Kinberg. Whilst the film still managed to claim the #1 spot at the Box Office and raked in over $740,000,000 worldwide, the damage to Singer's reputation seemed to have been done.

It now emerges that the lawyers representing the claimant, Jeff Herman and Mark Gallagher, have filed a court motion saying they no longer want to be involved with their client - essentially asking to withdraw from the case saying their relationship with Mr Egan has "broken down completely and cannot be repaired".

Mr Egan had wanted to settle out of court which, Mr Singer's lawyer argued showed a "lack of confidence in their chances for success" - which seems to have some merit now given that Mr Egan's legal team are distancing themselves from him. Egan had previously filed similar suits against other figures in Hollywood, all of which were unsuccessful.

Mr Singer maintains he was never in Hawaii (where the alleged abuse took place) at the time and has never had sexual contact with Mr Egan. The US District Court in Honolulu is due to hear a motion to dismiss the case from Bryan Singer on 9 September.

With the success of Days of Future Past and the likelihood that the case will be dismissed, it seems all but certain that Singer will once again return to the X-Men franchise for X-Men: Apocalypse which is set for release on May 27th 2016.

Certainly doesn't look good for Egan does it?

Innocent until proven guilty I say, a lot of the things surrounding this whole case seemed shady.
I do hope this means Singer is definitely on for Apocalypse, he did an amazing job with DOFP.

Good, it was obvious from day one that the f*ck was just trying to elicit money in lieu of DOFP's potential (and eventual) success.

@CherryBomb Yeah, Singer's been tweeting out little teases of the script so it looks like it was (luckily) never Fox's intention. 2016's gonna be quote a year.

@Sipperelle

Yeah but he's been working on the script during DOFP's production, but I was more concerned that he wouldn't come back to Direct over some rumours a month ago. But this seems to be soe good news! :)

Good. Don't even care whether it was true or not. If Singer can make another movie like DOFP I'll give him all the kids he wants.

You mean a filthy whore was promised stardom in exchange for sex and when that stardom never materialized they turned on the person who played them for a fool. That's the first time I've ever heard of something like that happening in Hollywood. :/

No, Singer has to be guilty. The legal experts that comment on CBM have thoroughly explained how they know he's guilty.

@doopie

Yeah, I'm an attorney. This smelled like bullshit from the beginning. There was never any talk of involvement with the District Attorney's office or an official police investigation into child abuse, so that's a major red flag. Secondly, the amount of money the plaintiff was willing to settle for was so ridiculously low that it just looked like he was hoping to get a quick payout. Third, the timing of the lawsuit makes it look even more likely that he just wanted Singer to cut him a check so this would all go away and not jeopardize one of Fox's tentpole movies.

We still don't know if it happened or not, only Singer and Eagan knows. What I can say is that I'm not surprised. One thing, while Eagan may have been telling the truth, or at least what he thought was the truth, his allegations against Singer had no evidence backing it. On the other hand Singer had evidence(I don't know if it ever got verified, but I do remember it being brought up) that he wasn't even in Hawaii during the alleged sexual assaults. This is why I hate being American; we have one of the best legal systems in the world yet we love to disregard the part that makes it so great. Innocent until proven Guilty!

Just because he's protected being involved with some of the most powerful people in that industry I'm not totally convinced he's innocent or squeaky clean as this article would have you believe. One thing I've learned over the years is more times than not, where there's smoke there's usually fire. Just look at what Woody Allen has gotten away with over the years. You guys could look the other way and keep your head in the sand. As for me I'll never pay to see another one of this jerk's movies. Just his history about Nazis alone is enough to make me sick.
