The country has brought us comic fans in North America so many cherished characters, Manga and films. I use the images of two of Japan's most beloved characters worldwide, Astro Boy and Godzilla. Both have thrived in comics. Now just think of how many other comics and films they've given the world, and that we're grateful for. Likewise, Japan cherishes characters such as Batman and Wolverine, and both have been given the Anime treatment.

There's been a strange backlash of people saying the tragic tsunami is "karma" for Pearl Harbour or the nation's Dolphin and Whale hunting practices. Pearl Harbour was seventy years ago, and since we've made peace with Japan. They suffered through the A-Bomb, I believe we can consider that dispute settled. Japan is one of North America's greatest allies.

The Whaling practices issue is a serious one, and personally I believe Japan should refrain from practicing it, but now is not the time to discuss it. The country needs our support, and what better community than CBM to provide it? Let's show our friends across the pacific support and gratitude for all they've done for us in our comic exchanges. Our thoughts and prayers should be with Japan right now.

Edit: A few people have asked what I meant by supporting Japan; in my mind simply not falling into the trap of saying some of the stupid things I listed above, like saying it was some sort of payback, and being aware of where the crisis is going.

Here's a good visualization of the damage in contrast to day-to-day life:
