Charlie Hunnam, Jon Bernthal & Dan Stevens Up For 'Snake Plissken' In ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK?

We finally (for better or worse) have some movement on that Escape From New York remake we've been hearing about, and according to Starlog, Hunnam (Pacific Rim), Bernthal (The Walking Dead) and Stevens (The Guest) are in line to play the iconic Snake Plissken.

I'm pretty sure this is one remake nobody could possibly want to see, but it seems we're getting it whether we like it or not. Silver Pictures and StudioCanal are moving forward with their take on John Carpenter's classic, and although no director is on board yet, Starlog reckon Charlie Hunnam, Jon Bernthal and Dan Stevens are on their radar to step into Kurt Russell's boots as Snake Plissken. The site also reveal that this remake is to be more of a team based movie, as Snake "traverses through a treacherous New York landscape with a rogues gallery of criminals who look to leave the island-turned-prison in exchange for the rescue of the captured U.S. President.”

“Plissken’s team consists of Mina, a warzone journalist framed for murder and living in the shadows of New York as a scavenger; Cabbie, a schizophrenic travel guide who serves as comic relief; Gareth, the last surviving member of the President’s security detail who harbours a dangerous secret; and The Brain, Plissken’s former partner-in-crime who left him to die after a botched robbery.”

Fans of the original will recognize a couple of those names, but word is that they are to be upgraded from supporting characters to co-leads in the remake. Apparently Hunnam is the "top contender" for the role, but having recently entered talks to star as Arthur Pendragon in Guy Ritchie's King Arthur movie, the momentum could well shift in favour of Bernthal or Stevens. Starlog are confident in their source, but until we have something official we'll have to treat this as a rumour for now. Thoughts?

Oh, please be Hunnam!! PLEASE!!!!!! It would just be TOO funny!!! To paraphrase:

"I felt a great disturbance in the Fans, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in butthurt and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened."

Charlie Hunnam gives off a kick-ass Kurt Russell vibe, so I vote him. It'll be weird to see someone else as Snake, though.

Well, at least you know what to expect now; A hundred thousand dollar straight-to-DVD film at your local theater.

Love Bernthal, like Hunnam and I don't know the other guy. I would absolutely be down for this

Yes I can just hear Hunnam's opening narration in that laughable American accent now.

Bernthal is best choice of those 3 guys. He can be believed as a bad ass.

Hunnam is next best, that Dan guy...should never even be considered.

I really love the original Escape from New York. To me that is a classic film.

If it's to be remade it better be great. My pick would have to be either Charlie Hunnam or Jon Bernthal.

Glad to see they are keeping it like the originals with the horrible acting :)

I'd take Hunnam over Bernthal anyday.

I never liked those movies much. I bet if they do remake it will be better than the original.

I'm going to call him "Charlie Hummus" because he's kind of bland and needs others around to give him flavor.

Tatum is a MUCH better actor than Hummus.

Hunnam please. He's the only one that gives off a Snake Plissken vibe.

I don't get why they don't go with Joel Edgerton.

This movie will be a shit remake but at least get someone who channels the original idea of Snake. Hunnam I'm meh on, Shane I'm meh on, and I don't even know who the last shit head is.

Thing is, in the (probably equally as shitty) remake of The Thing, Edgerton kind of played the equivilant of Russell's MacReady from the 82' film. Like I said, this movie has no hope, it will be shit, and we'll have more fun watching the OG mvoie.

Please no Bernthal. The dude overacts. He reminds me of Terrence Howard in most of his performances. And I mean Hustle & Flow or Crash Howard. Bernthal, to me, was one of the worst things about The Walking Dead (aside from the writing, of course.)

Hunnam is garbage. I don't see the appeal. Oh, and there's no reason to touch this movie.

I don't know...as much as I loved Escape From New York when I saw it as a kid back in the 80's, and it's still a favorite of mine, IF done correctly, I'd actually be all for a remake of it. Or reboot. Or reimagining. Or whatever. Watching it these days, despite the nostalgia, I can't help but think that with today's technology, and if they make it a hard "R", this COULD be a badass film, like the original was when it came out in the 80's. And, don't hate me for this, but Hunnam's Jax role on SOA is VERY similar to Russell's portrayal of Plissken. The look, the swagger, the voice...I really think Hunnam would do the role justice. But, I've been wrong before. I was behind Gerard Butler, though, when this was first being mentioned as a remake.

Why do a potentially unwatchable remake when the series has already shit all over itself.

I'm not against remakes but some films shouldn't be remade. Escape from New York is a classic and perfect the way it is. You just can't replicate the gritt from some of these old 80's movies. It would be much cooler if they made a sequel with Kurt Russel instead of a remake. Leave Snake alone!

Josh Holloway for Snake!!! He is perfect.

You can't recast Snake Plissken much like you can't recast Jack Burton. Kurt Russell owned those roles.

I don't mind them remaking this but if they are so shot for new ideas why haven't they tried to mage a Metal Gear Solid film with this character since he was basically the inspiration for him.

Why a remake? Can't we just escape from somewhere else, like Paris or Chattanooga?
