With Shailene Woodley recently cast as Mary Jane-Watson, a lot of people have doubted whether or not she has the ‘looks’ to play Mary Jane-Watson. I disagree with this notion. I think she has the potential to be fantastic. In this editorial I will debunk any and all opinions against her playing Mary Jane.

1. She does not have the looks!
So? There are plenty of CBM actors and actresses who barely look like their comic book counterparts and their performances have been highly acclaimed. Let me take you through a list.......
First and foremost Heath Ledger as Joker.

His performance was not only considered one of the best or the best CBM performance ever, a lot consider his performance to be the best of the decade. And look at him! He barely looks like the Joker(besides the makeup).

And second of all Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman

His performance as Bruce Wayne was so great and he pulled off the playboy billionare brilliantly, and he barely looks like Bruce Wayne.

Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman

People doubted ever since she was first cast that she did not have the looks or the ability to act, and guess what? Her performance was probably the most highly acclaimed of the entire movie.

2. She can’t pull of the acting of Mary Jane-Watson.
From what I hear, she is a great actress. And she is an actress! Your supposed to be able to pull off any role that is given to you. Now I will show you a list of actors and actresses who had some of the best performances in their movies and came in with a lot of doubt from fans and critics........

Chris Evans as Captain America/Steve Rogers

His performance as Cap was quite fantastic and I have barely heard any criticism about him playing Cap ever since CA:TFA.

Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man

His performance was so great that it made the character better, need I say more?

James McAvoy as Proffesor X

He delivered a great performance and made XM:FC a true treat.

Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk

He did such a fantastic job and was one of the best highlights of The Avengers.

Please keep in mind there could be many more performances in CBM’s that could be named in both categories. If you have any other concerns regarding her performance as Mary Jane, please comment below. I think she will do a terrific job, and when we see her in TASM 2, your doubts will disappear. And don't just derive looks for a performance, look at ALL sides of the spectrum. And how can she be worse the Kristin Dunst.
