Lark joins the acclaimed team of Peter David, Robin Furth and Richard Isanove in the select group of creators entrusted by Stephen King himself to bring the adult adventures of his most personal creation to life in Dark Tower: The Gunslinger – The Battle Of Tull! Longtime fans and newcomers alike are sure to be amazed as Lark’s take on the grit and grandeur of Mid-World this June with an outright merciless tale that sets in motion the fateful journey of Roland Deschain.

“I have nothing but respect and admiration for Stephen King and the chance to work on the Dark Tower is a wonderful privilege,” said Lark. “I only hope that I can come close to conveying his vision – a daunting task, but a challenge that I'm enjoying tremendously. It has allowed me to explore the darker aspects of my art and really start pushing some of the boundaries of my own style. And who doesn't love drawing cowboys and horses?!”

The Man in Black has lured Roland to a barren saloon town and, once there, he’ll realize than even a stone cold killer is no match for the horrors of the Dark Tower! Why does a dead man still walk the streets of Tull and, why are this town’s living, breathing citizens a far greater threat? The baddest man in Mid-World is about to find out that the true price of his quest can only be paid in spent shells and innocent blood this June in Dark Tower: The Gunslinger – The Battle Of Tull #1 (of 5)!

I like the way Marvel is doing 'The Stand' Better. IDK what happened to whatever comic company was doing 'The Talisman' but they gave us a little bit of the story over a year ago and just seemed to quit on us! Im pissed about that seeing as how thats one of my all time favorite King books.

you'll have to forgive me, but i actually got into the Dark Tower in a major way BECAUSE of the comics! i thought Jae Lee's artwork was unbelievably fantastic, and the backs of the single issues had all the prose stories and background info on the whole Dark Tower universe, and from there i just immersed myself in the books (and comicbookmovie news!)

i'll miss Jae Lee's pencils, but i'll probably give this a chance. i think all the prequel stuff that came before it (although much of it covered in Wizard & Glass) filled in some never-before fleshed out tales of the ka-tet. again, from my unique entry point perspective though, it was all very new and exciting to me. i really showed up late to this dance, but glad i made it

@Norrin: welcome to the ka-tet, sai! Long days and pleasant nights!

It doesn't matter how you found the dark tower, as long as it found you, all is well...

I've read all seven Dark Tower books (plus some others books that cross over into that universe; Black House, Low Men in Yellow Coats etc.) yet never read a single Dark Tower comic, and I understood what was going on.
I didn't see the point in the comics. Like I've always said ever since they started releasing them; milking the cash cow.

They're turning the Battle of Tull chapter into an entire arc? Sigh... they really seem to be stretching these stories out for as long as they can. They turned the first chapter of The Gunslinger into an entire arc ('The Journey Begins') filled with unnecessary flashbacks, then they took a holiday from the story to muck about with a Little Sisters of Eluria flashback arc (which should have been a one-shot). Now they're stretching this chapter into a full arc as well? At this rate the films will end before the comics do. I just hope they hurry up and get to the way station – first-time readers are in for a treat, because once Roland meets Jake, the story really kicks off. What has until now been a fairly straightforward western with fantasy trappings begins to turn into something truly amazing. Once we get to the Drawing of the Three, it'll finally feel like we're reading the Dark Tower series. The Waste Lands is my favourite King book – it's the only one that kept me completely enthralled from start to finish without faltering. It's great that the comics can go straight from Blaine to the Oz stuff, since the book-sized Mejis flashback has already been covered. I think *Marvel* will be able to handle the Wolves of the Calla very will (heh, not to spoil it, but you know what I mean). And after that... well, the books get really crazy, and I can't wait to see it brought to life. I'm especially curious about how certain King characters will be handled – trying to be ambiguous here. This is a story like no other.

@ HellsHammer

I agree about The Stand. They preserve King's prose intact rather than adding that silly omniscient Mid-World narrator. If only that team had been put in charge of the Dark Tower comics..

you know they've already cast Roland, they're just not releasing it! blue contacts won't cut it. we've all seen how "great" blue contacts look from the underworld movies.
