There was debates mostly for the last two actors who portrayed The Punisher. I've seen all and honestly, Dolph Lundgren was my favorite. That is a completely different article, so It's not about what I think it's about what you guys think.

Thomas Jane!

I voted Thomas Jane. He was the best, but there hasn't yet been a good Frank Castle.

Every adaptation humanizes him a bit too much. He's not a tragic hero, he's a tragic monster.

They also never give his military background the proper focus, either. Castle's past as a special forces Marine is a very big part of who he is, every bit as much as WWII is a part of Captain America.

Jane, Stevenson and Lundgren were all alright in there own way, but like FrankGarret said there hasnt been a great Frank Castle yet.

Stevenson is my favorite. There have been a lot of discussions on this already, but I'll reiterate.

The biggest thing everyone has to remember, is that the actors are bound by the script that is given to them. So what I look at is execution and genuine immersion, and to me Stevenson played the part most naturally. Jane was clearly acting to me, and at lot of times his glare and poses were beyond corny, just like Hugh Jackman's stupid flexing poses throughout Origins. Jane had the better, more entertaining film, but Stevenson fits the profile best in my book.

I'm not a fan of Dolph as an actor, more so just a it of a folk hero really, so I don't give him a whole lot.

Tom Jane's leading? Seriously? I voted for Ray. He fit the role like a glove and looks like he could kick Jane's arse. Punisher War Zone was more in tune with the comics than Jane's. It was gritty, ultra violent, and took place in the streets where it should. The film also had Jigsaw while the other had a made for the movie only villain, Howard Saint. It bothered me that Thomas Jane's Punisher took place in Florida, it was always sunny, and that Frank Castle had a big family. I wish directors would stop tampering with a characters origin in which there's really nothing wrong with it.

hahaha, there was no point to this poll! Jane is by FAR the better punisher!

I like Ray the best as the Punisher. His role in it was dark and ruthless...the way it should be. Jigsaw was terrible. What a lame script for the villian. I'd love to see Punisher Warzone 2 with the Kingpin as the main villian.

Ray Stevenson...by far. Not a great movie but at least no travolta as the villain.

I voted for Thomas Jane for the best punisher.
stevenson as castle is too cruel and they just want to show punisher slaughtering the mob..

jane was a much better actor, and that movie was better cinema than the sequel... but stevenson embodies the hard ass look and feel a bit better imo. if stevenson had better direction...and just about everything else that goes on behind the scenes... he would have been a closer realization of the character

RAY FARGIN STEVENSON. Thomas Jane was the BUTT PUNISHER. Nothing even remotely intimidating about Jane. Stevenson was the EXECUTIONER that the Punisher needs to be in movies. The Stevenson Punisher movie was the first and ONLY Punisher movie so far in my opinion.

Thomas Jane. I really like the movie. It didn't interest me enough to see in the theatre but once I saw it on DVD I liked it- the extended directors cut brings it all together. It's like a late 80's revenge flick.

Stevenson. War Zone is just pure guilty pleasure and empty calories. I respect it because it's not taking itself super seriously and it's truly a live-action comic book. He definitely has the best Look.

I thought at first, why does this even need to be asked? Although Dolph Lundgren is okay, but isn't Ray Stevenson undoubtedly the best Punisher ever?

Then I read around, it turns out that some people do like Thomas Jane (as The Punisher I meant. I like him, but not as The Punisher.) I totally agree with marvel72 that Jane is as intimidating as a Powerpuff Girl.

Thomas Jane Did something that no other actor that has played the Punisher has acomplished... He made you give a $h!t about the punisher and the the supporting cast.

Lundrum's Punisher was... horrible - it wasn't faithful to the comics, it wasn't exciting, it just wasn't good.

Warzone was... wasn't bad it just wasn't good - It was a gore fest and failed to capture the heart of the Punisher and his concern for other (innocent) people. I would comment on Stevenson's acting but I think his most memorable line was: "grrrr".

Jane's Punisher was... the best - yes it had problems, yes it was unfaithful to the comic but Jane nailed the character.

Tom Jane is who I voted for. Dolph was terrible (NO SKULL WTF!!!) Warzone wasn't too bad by was ruined by Stevenson, however I acually liked Jigsaw (minus how he got his name which SUCKED!) Tom Jane FTW

Alright, I gotta say..I do respect everyone's opinions here. But I am a big Punisher fan. The actor/story/over all movie that hit closest to the Punisher trademark style was and is Punisher Warzone. Granted, the movie had flaws, but they were minor. No major plot screw-ups like Thomas Jane's Punisher having campy personality issues and really misleading punishing tactics..(popsicle torture)..Ray Stenvenson's Punisher would've shoved that popsicle up Jane's ass waited for it to melt and then shot him in the head. On the topic of major errors in the story of Punisher, though, here are a few; Jane's first...According to what I know of Frank Castle's story arc...and I could be wrong...Frank was never an Army ranger or an undercover operative in Law enforcement. Seriously, i mean, come on! Pretending to be a Russian homo thug to get the skinny for a weapons cache or something of that sort...that was lame. Huge ass family in PUERTO RICO none the less..(now before this goes out of proportion, I am simply implying that his IMMEDIATE family, wife and two kids, I believe, were slaughtered in Central Park, NYC by a mob hit. Puerto Rico/NYC/big family/small family...huge difference). Punisher being blown up and swimming back to a beach only to be brought back to his normal revengeful self by a very mysteriously charming beach bum after about how many month's or years...wtf man.His constant pseudo battles with his depression and drinking made to look like an older bewildered emo kid that never learned to cope with loss or life in general, also extremely crap. Oh, and Jane's portrayal having him put people through these prolonged punishing techniques just for dramatic purposes. Castle does these minor techniques to get answers...when he wants someone dead, though....they die. Not partake in a game of "Let's see how long I can survive my testicles being lit on fire while having sandpaper glued to my hands" Castle is a United States Marine. We are always taught to take down a target quick and effortlessly then move onto the next one. We make the bodies hit the floor....hard. That's what Warzone brought to the table. Enter Ray Stevenson. From the begining...Man hidden from radar spending his life as an outlaw. Perfect. Hints on his past history with him being in the Priesthood at some point and a U.S. Marine afterwards when realizing that he could not forgive and marrying the woman he loves. Excellent. Stevenson portraying a man who is still tortured by the loss of his family, yet over the "let me shoot myself in the head" aspect and moving on to the deaths of the mob family responsible and anyone who stands in the way.....or pretty much anyone who pisses him off.....mothereffin' masturbate material right there!Shooting those street runners in mid flight with an rpg...priceless. And completely do-able I assure you.
Smashing someone's face in with steel enforced knuckle guards in tactical combat gloves, also do-able, yet only through proper customization to achieve that effect...and proper force behind the punch followed by technique. Overall, I say WARZONE for the win. All the way. Ray Stevenson played the excellent Frank Castle role and he even managed to throw in some remorse for his character as well. The villains needed work, but at least they were really demented and the street thugs looked like real street thugs and not some rosie posie amateurs. I encourage you naysayers to give it a full watch. But only after understanding the true story behind the character. That's that.

Right you are Leon, right you are indeed. I just felt like Jane's portrayal was a bit more comical than depicted through the comics. I don't see him being able to posses the type of rage a mortal man can eminate that can make a God fear him. If Stevenson had a scene like that written in the story I'm sure it would've been more believable.

Yeah, I have read it actually. Well put. I gotta admit, Dolph definitely had that edge I like to see in a Punisher portrayal. So, yeah, I guess he'll have a vote from me too.
