Remakes are still all the rage, so that's why a new take on Joel Schumacher 1990's movie Flatliners is on the way. That original starred Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, and Kiefer Sutherland and opened to mixed reviews, so why Sony Pictures felt the need to revisit the property is hard to say in all honesty.

Still, it looks mostly ok but definitely seems to have the feel of a typically generic sci-fi/horror movie.

In Flatliners, five medical students, obsessed by the mystery of what lies beyond the confines of life, embark on a daring and dangerous experiment: by stopping their hearts for short periods of time, each triggers a near-death experience – giving them a firsthand account of the afterlife. But as their experiments become increasingly dangerous, they are each haunted by the sins of their pasts, brought on by the paranormal consequences of trespassing to the other side. So, just like the original then!

Directed by Niels Arden Oplev, Flatliners stars Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, and Kiersey Clemons and is set to be released on September 28th. Check out the poster and trailer below.

I love the original film. I hope this one is just as good if not better. It is such an interesting concept that is timeless.

@LukeCage2155 - Jeez, 1990? I was 19 when this came out. I remember enjoying the movie, but never bothered to watch it again in the subsequent 27 years. I'll probably go ahead and find this online and check it out when it gets released.

I'll have to give the original movie a watch, this looks interesting though. Did anyone else get a The Lazarus Effect vibe?

@SailorBoiScout - I got a Flatliners vibe the first time I saw a trailer for The Lazarus Effect.

Ellen Page (Super)?

yeah, because being Kitty Pryde on an actual comicbookmovie site is irrelevant right? lol

@gambgel - well to be fair, the hero she's plays in super is more well done and memorable than her role as kitty pryde.

I think gunn is a bastard for what he did to her though.

Honestly, it looks like they just took the original concept and threw more money at it.

second part of the trailer took me by surprise. that part looked more interesting, mostly due to a mysterious visions surrounding those people.

but to be honest when i saw that Sony logo a the beginning of the trailer ... oh boy. it took me off. guess that's how i feel about Sony nowadays.

@jerryblake - it's pretty weird that Sony is the only big studio that I don't care about. Yet, they're the only people in the game console business that I care about.

It's kinda mind-boggling.

@jerryblake - exactly how i feel. Even with Hardy as Venom, thats a big hard pass...unless the trailers blow me away.

@MotherGooseUPus - Right? Hards as Venom is a dream casting for me.... but damn why did it have to be in some stupid separate Sony Venomverse? I just can't support that.

This is going to need a new article. This is actually a sequel. Kiefer Sutherland reprises his role. And it makes more sense to remake a film with mixed reviews.

Well if Luna is as bland as he was in r1, this movie will sink.

@OozyOrifice - He gave an Oscar worthy performance with charm and charisma to spare compared to Felicity Jones in that film.
