We first learned that The Tomorrow War might be skipping theaters altogether back in January, and THR is now reporting that Chris McKay's upcoming sci-fi actioner will be heading to Amazon Prime for a streaming debut later this year.

The former Paramount release, which was originally supposed to hit theaters last year before the pandemic resulted in mass delays, will now premiere on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories on July 2.

In The Tomorrow War, the world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrive from the year 2051 to deliver an urgent message: Thirty years in the future mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future and join the fight.

Among those recruited is high school teacher and family man Dan Forester (Chris Pratt). Determined to save the world for his young daughter, Dan teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (J.K. Simmons) in a desperate quest to rewrite the fate of the planet.

Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson and Edwin Hodge also star.

“The Tomorrow War will be a global event that will surprise and delight our customers around the world,” said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. “Director Chris McKay has brilliantly crafted this unique, action-packed sci-fi escape that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats and tug on their heart strings with its father-daughter storyline. We couldn’t be happier to continue our relationship with Chris Pratt—who brings such dynamic star power to the film—along with David Ellison and the Skydance team, as we share this exciting film with fans.”

“I’m so proud of this incredible cast and crew who worked under challenging circumstances to create a unique, original sci-fi action movie… something that’s increasingly rare. Watching this team of actors and artisans effortlessly blend action, horror, comedy, and drama was a dream come true for me … and I hope will thrill audiences this summer,” added McKay.

Wait, isn’t the guy directing this called Chris McKay?

Not sure Adam McKay has anything to do with this?

@MrCamw1 - Stallone has been trying to find funding for the movie for the last 5 years.
No studio signed off on it, not sure why. Either they didn't agree with Slys ideas or something else.

@Blergh - was there a drop in BO after 3?

@MrCamw1 -

Expendables 1: (Budget: 80Mil)
WW: $274,470,394
Domestic: $171,401,870

Expendables 2: (Budget: 100Mil)
WW: $314,975,955
Domestic: $85,028,192

Expendables 3: (Budget: 100Mil)
WW: $214,657,577
Domestic: $39,322,544

absolute downwards trend in the US while internationally part 3 was a sore disapointment.

@Blergh - Yes, not to mention it was leaked in the internet. It was pg-13 with a new cast and even Sly hates it hence why he wants to do a fourth. I think Netflix could help him out instead of churning out Adam Sandler's crap.

@dirtyscore - was it? Didn't know that it got leaked before the premiere, that's quite a blow.
I remember when X-Men Origins: Wolverine got leaked. I'm still trying to get a hold of that rough cut.

Netflix only does bulk contracts though. So if Sly were to get in business with them he'd have to sign a multi year deal and I'm not exactly sure he wants to go there. He only did that chinese deal for the Escape Plan sequels because it was quick and dirty and only cost him 3 weeks of his life (the movies were shot back to back )

Thirty years in the future mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species. The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future and join the fight.

Wouldn't it be better to tell the world everything you know about the deadly alien species and let them have a thirty year head start on training and countermeasures?

"Creates a divergent timeline that wouldn't solve the time traveler's problem."

... Shut up, it's still silly.

... Yes, I'll still watch it.

I'll probably watch it but personally don't need more of Pratt after trying to be Hillsongs Tom Cruise. He doesn't have the charisma and talent of Cruise to tone down the stench around his cult.

The premise sounds like a mix between Edge of Tomorrow and The Expendables. Could make for a fun watch.

Getting a little worried about Paramount. They've been selling movies left and right as if they don't have much liquidity left. I hope they bounce back.

@MovieMonster - they just launched Paramount+ the movie could have landed there but it seems they rather sold it off. Kinda odd

Sounds interesting, I like Chris Pratt so I’m happy I’ll have another blockbuster to look forward to this summer! :)

Sounds fun enough to watch it. It's crazy, though, how badly my Pratt-appreciation crashed after the high of Parks&Rec/Lego/GOTG. My "I'll watch movies because of Chris Pratt" phase lasted for precisely one movie, Jurassic World.
