20th Century Fox Releases a Handful of New Rise of the Planet of the Apes Pics

With the Planet of the Apes franchise reboot coming up in just a couple months, 20th Century Fox has finally started ramping up the marketing for the movie. With a couple of sweet trailers, and new TV spots coming out, today they released a handful of new images showing off some seriously impressive visuals.

Picked these up from TMP:

To be fair, a few of these are just high-resolution stills of what has been shown in the trailers. But even so, I don't remember the VFX looking this good in the trailer. We all know that they'll be working on the effects for as long as possible leading right up to the release, and these pictures are proof to that. But don't fret, there's plenty of new stuff to.

This is one of my favorite moments from the newest trailer. He saves Charles (John Lithgow) from a person, and then hugs him to make sure everything is okay. The range of emotions present in this scene are powerful. Fear for a person he cares about, a little shame at having hurt someone, and some sadness. Really, it's hard to imagine this is a digital creation.

Oh how quickly he's gone from sad/afraid, to rage. Seriously, this does not look like a monkey I'd want to mess with.

Rocket plays rival to Caesar in this film. Judging by the descriptions on some of these pictures, I'd say that the apes will have far more of a storyline than originally thought. It won't just be the human drama we're following, but also amongst the apes themselves.

There's a few more images in really high quality over on the site, so hit the link for more.

Rotpota is going to be awesome! This wasn't going to be on my list of movies to see in the theaters but it is slowly creeping onto the radar.

And didn't John Lithgow star in that military monkey movie with Matthew Broderick?

I guess "rise" stands for a storyline where one entity overcomes obstacles to achieve their goal...wait, isn't that the plot to most movies? If that's the case, the number of movies with a title saying rise needs to rise. Rise of Thor, X-Men Rising, Weakling on the Rise: The Story of Captain America, Sister Act 4: Off the Risers, Prometheus: Before Paul Riser was in our movies, etc...Sorry, I tried to rise to the occasion. Wait, that's Gusto's line.

This is on the very short list of movies from this summer that I care about paying to see (going to see GL tomorrow- making my own mind up about this thing). I'd still honestly prefer makeup for the apes (they did just fine with that in the original movies), but the CG does look very well-done. Story sounds interesting from what I know of it. Just wish we had Dr. Zaius somewhere, just to do one chorus:

Sorry about the picture. It was this, or one that someone taped with a phone off of a TV or one that was in Spanish. This has the whole song.
