Colin Farrell On The Chances Of A TOTAL RECALL Sequel And Not Shooting The Film In 3D

The Irish actor shares his thoughts on the possibility of returning as Quaid for a Total Recall sequel, while also revealing that he would have considered turning down the starring role in the remake if the studios had filmed it in 3D.

"If there was scope for it then sure I would," Colin Farrell told Total Film in a recent interview when asked whether he would consider returning to star in a sequel to the Sony Pictures remake (released next month) from director Len Wiseman. "I had such a blast working with Kate [Beckinsale], Jess [Biel] and on the character and in this world. I’d be mad not to do it. Then I’d go off and do something small. I don’t want to limit myself to any one particular genre, or any one particular time of film that’s merit is judged on the size of its budget."

Surprisingly, Total Recall is one of the few blockbusters out this year which isn't being released in 3D; a decision that Farrell is very happy with. "If I heard this film was going to be 3D I don’t know whether I would have done it. I’ve seen some things that were great in 3D but personally, I just don’t need it - if the story’s good enough. Maybe my kids will need it, but I just don’t need the picture to come out." He adds, "Some people say it’s a better representation of how you see things in the world but I don’t really buy it. It worked for me personally in the Werner Herzog documentary, I really liked it in that." Click on the link below to read the interview in full.

Total Recall is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale" by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he's got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life - real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police - controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world - Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.

STARRING:

Colin Farrell as Douglas Quaid
Jessica Biel as Melina
Kate Beckinsale as Lori
Bill Nighy as Kuato
Bryan Cranston as Vilos Cohaagen
John Cho as McClane

The more movies not done for 3D the better, the fad is expensive and really adds nothing to the film experience other than being a novelty.

Damn i wish they would have made a new scifi film rather than remaking Total Recall. :(

That could have been awesome.

I'm so glad it's not in 3-D. I'm tired of Hollywood concentrating so much on special effects and 3-D instead of concentrating on the STORY. Tell a great STORY and "They will come."

The best 3D movie IMO this year was The Avengers and that was converted.

So far no movie filmed in 3D has lived up to the hype

I've been against the idea of remaking Total Recall since I first heard about it, but I do respect them for not jumping on the obnoxious 3D bandwagon. The only way we have any hope of ever getting rid of 3D is for moviegoers to unite in boycotting it, as I have been from day one.

I don't think they should make a sequel. The conclusion of the original movie is best when it's seen as open-ended.

H wouldn't have turned it down, that's just after the fact talk.

I love 3D and as long as films shot in the format keep making money it'll keep going.

3D does affect the way that some directors film their movies, therefore affecting the film. I watched The Amazing Spiderman in 2D and it was obvious that some shots were specifically made for 3D including the final webbing at the camera shot.

I would be happy for the 3D fad to end.

Avatar had effective & interesting 3D effects...all others were weak.
Can only James Cameron pull it off? Crazy.
