BOX OFFICE: EDGE OF TOMORROW Debuts To $20 Million Overseas Ahead Of US Release

With stiff competition from new release Maleficent and the likes of Godzilla and X-Men: Days of Future Past, Doug Liman's brilliant Edge of Tomorrow has debuted to a somewhat tame $20 million overseas.

In order to beat the World Cup, Warner Bros. released Edge of Tomorrow a week early overseas, but pitting the sci-fi movie starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt against the kid-friendly Maleficent may not have been a smart move as it took only $20 million from 28 international markets. The Angelina Jolie fairy tale in comparison earned a whopping $100 million from 47 markets. As you can see, there are still plenty of other locations that Edge of Tomorrow has yet to open in, with a North American release set for this coming Friday. Domestic tracking has put it on pace for a debut in the $30 million range, a lacklustre figure given the $180 million budget. As I said in my review (which you can read by clicking here), Edge of Tomorrow is a great movie and well worth checking out. Hopefully it can make some money back when it opens in countries like China and Mexico...
