WB should have put this film out in mid April 2 weeks after Winter Soldier and 2 weeks before TASM2.Universal made a lot of money releasing Oblivion in the same time frame last year.
ManofSteel23 - 6/2/2014, 4:25 AM
Yeah the marketing for this has been poor, If tom cruise wasn't in this, I probably wouldnt of gone to see it and then its come out at a really bad time, far to close to the releases of godzilla and dofp, but brilliant film regardless, I wouldn't watch x-men twice but I'd love to see this again
remembertheking - 6/2/2014, 4:31 AM
hopefully word of mouth helps it make some $.
I think it was marketed wrong. they missed out on the tom cruise being a coward angle and went for the action wham-bam type of movie.
QuestiontheAnswer - 6/2/2014, 4:46 AM
It's unfortunate that quality action movies like this garner lacklustre profits.
MercwithMouth - 6/2/2014, 4:49 AM
I'm not surprised. Cruise has been falling off.

I wonder if Wilding knows now how TASM2 fans feel...
SuperCat - 6/2/2014, 4:49 AM

I saw it yesterday, it is awesome...
CherryBomb - 6/2/2014, 4:53 AM
Aww that's sad :( I really want this to do well.
number1hero - 6/2/2014, 5:17 AM
BACK IN THE DAY: Tom Cruise = HIT..... NOW: Tom Cruise = FLOP

McGee - 6/2/2014, 5:26 AM
CherryBomb - 6/2/2014, 5:32 AM
@number1hero

I'd hardly call his recent career a flop. Oblivion made some money, Jack Reacher made A LOT of money, so did Mission Impossible:Ghost Protocol and even Knight and Day did OK. It's only Rock of Ages that was a flop and he wasn't an action star in that.

He's still a bankable actor, sure probably not compared to his hay day but still.
SuperCat - 6/2/2014, 5:38 AM
LOL!!! @ McGee
GadoTheLion - 6/2/2014, 5:46 AM
@Azazel1 on a scale of 1-10 what would you give it?
zerovoltage - 6/2/2014, 5:50 AM
i hope ticket sales pick up for this ... horrible opening!
Kyos - 6/2/2014, 5:55 AM
I'd planned to watch EoT since we got the first description, back when it was still called All You Need Is Kill. I'm gonna go later this week with some friends, and we're gonna be joined by somebody who's already seen it and loved it so much he wanted to go a second time.
MightyZeus - 6/2/2014, 6:15 AM
I agree that this film should have been released in April to get more money at the box office but it would have been risky going up against TASM 2. I'm looking forward to watching EoT since the film is getting great reviews. I'm not hyped about the film but i certainly am intrigued. I just need to convince my partner to see it with me since they dislike Tom Cruise.
brazilianbatman - 6/2/2014, 6:44 AM
if you release a movie in the same month as the world cup hoping to make money you should be fired.

Maleficent probably wont be affected because its a girls movies.

X-Men will probably make a good money before the cup starts, and Godzilla and Spiderman 2 also made almost their money. Captain AMerica is safe and probably didn't lose any money from the worldide soccer fans.

Next week I will forget about a movies. My life will soccer and fan fests. I wont even walk by a movie theather. I am glad I already watched all the movies that interested me before the WC such as X-Men, Spiderman 2 and Captain America 2. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Guardians of the Galaxy will be post-world cup so I will probably be free for movies at this time.
fedeferruzola - 6/2/2014, 7:04 AM
Oblivion was terrible.
Bekss - 6/2/2014, 7:19 AM
I can't be more happy for X-men but this only let me see that having "America" in the title really affected Cap2 international boxoffice
Azazel1 - 6/2/2014, 7:20 AM
@Gado-9
LordBritish - 6/2/2014, 8:25 AM
Edge of Tomorrow is not a household name in the World market; neither is it in the U.S. However, the U.S. consumer relies a lot on word of mouth and critical testimony before giving something a chance. I am not 100% sure if the World market relies on the same if a product does not have a popular brand name attached to it. Perspectives are truly different in other parts of the world, and perhaps companies can get away with using misleading advertisement and not understanding the source material from its origin can lead to non-facts about a property. For example, in my circle (central america), folks were claiming that the Avengers would show up in Iron Man 3 or that Captain America would definitely show more Avengers characters. . .

So I am leaning on misconception playing a part in the success or failure of a film in the World market.
Logan5 - 6/2/2014, 8:53 AM
@fedeferruzola

Hey Fede, glad you could come onto an article promoting Edge of Tomorrow to state that Oblivion was terrible.., which it clearly was not.., but good stuff!

It's like you know someone who appreciates what went on during that production, watches the film quite frequently and your goal is to simply get under their skin with as little effort as possible. Welcome to the internet!

Just not interested in seeing this one, but I do shed a tear for what Black Widow could've been every time I see Emily Blunt in these promos...so close and yet so far.
JoJo1982 - 6/2/2014, 10:29 AM
I wanna see this movie, looks really good

It sux Tom Cruise doesn't get box office attention he deserves, unless it's a mission impossible movie

Jack Reacher and Oblivion were soo good movies, but only did decent business in the box office
113 - 6/2/2014, 10:35 AM
WB really sucks at release dates strategies.
GadoTheLion - 6/2/2014, 10:52 AM
@Azazel1

Nice, looking forward to this,2014 is turning into a great action year
GA15 - 6/2/2014, 1:34 PM
wow i thought this movie was going to be good.i heard it was a good movie why is it doing so bad.
captainireland - 6/2/2014, 1:48 PM
I loved this. I was expecting absolutely nothing from it, just another boring Oblivion type movie. But I thought it was worlds better than Godzilla and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Not quite on Cap 2 or DOFP levels of awesome but definitely the best original movie I've seen in a very long time. Hopefully it does well when it hits stateside.

This report is very misleading as EOT only opened in a few major overseas markets. It opened in 26 markets most of which are very small markets.

Here are 22 of the markets it opened in which when all is said & done bring in very little international box office for American movies:

Argentina
Bolivia
Chile
Colombia
Israel
Hong Kong
Indonesia
Malaysia
Taiwan
Austria
Belgium
Croatia
Finland
Hungary
Iceland
Lithuania
Netherlands
Portugal
Serbia & Montenegro
Slovenia
Spain
Switzerland

It did open in a few bigger markets (Brazil, Germany, Italy & UK) but the biggest are yet to come. Even huge blockbusters like TDK, TDKR & Avengers did not make much in these 22 smaller markets.

I did see a sneak preview of this movie and have to agree with critics that it's awesome. However, I have no invest in the box office this movie either way in concern to if it flops or not but when I see inaccurate / leading reporting I will tell it like it is. Not sure why this post is attempting to down play it.
MarvelMainEvent - 6/2/2014, 2:42 PM
Furthermore, for comparison sake, the largest grossing overseas movie of 2014 TASM2 opened with $41,775,402 in the same foreign markets Edge of Tomorrow opened in this past weekend. If EOT does close to 50% of TASM2 overseas when all is said & done I’m sure WB would be pleased with the foreign take.

Seems this article was posted to downplay Edge of Tomorrow. One would wonder why since it’s not a CBM but when you think about it Josh Wilding is the type of guy that hopes ill-will on WB, Fox & Sony regardless if it’s a CBM or not.
Proof is in the pudding as he’s boasting about Maleficent overseas take this weekend from 47 markets and comparing the two (EOT only opened in 26 & only 4 major).

The only numbers he wants you to walk away with is Maleficent $100m and Edge of Tomorrow $20 million as 95% of readers fall for reporting like this.

When in all actuality, $100 million of Maleficent is by no means a good number when you consider it opened in all the major markets & all the money the foreign theaters keep.
