Enders Game being boycotted??

Enders Game being boycotted??

This movie has not premiered in theaters yet, and a group is already protesting it....

According to Movies.Yahoo.com, a group by the name "Geeks Out" has launched a virtual protest against this movie, and is asking people to "Skip Ender's Game" because of anti-gay marriage comments made by Orson Scott Card, author of the 1985 book.

"Do not buy a ticket at the theater, do not purchase the DVD, do not watch it on-demand. Ignore all merchandise and toys," the site implores. "By pledging to Skip Ender's Game, we can send a clear and serious message to Card and those that do business with his brand of anti-gay activism -- whatever he's selling, we're not buying."

The Geeks Out site says the group is organizing a series of "Skip Ender's Game" events in New York, Orlando, Seattle and other major U.S. cities to coincide with the movie's debut.

The story of "Ender's Game" is set 70 years after a horrific alien war, and follows an unusually gifted child sent to an advanced military school in space to prepare for a future invasion.

In my most honest and humble opinion,I just don't care what groups or petitions might tell me or want me to do. If I enjoy good sci-fi (I just started reading this particular book and it is great!) or movie, then it is up to me to go see it or not, no matter what the author might think of a certain topic. That's the great thing about free will and not being a sheep, you can make your own choice regardless of who or what tells you otherwise.

Nuff said...

Any comments you know where to put them....

I'm anti-gay marriage as they come, and I don't plan on seeing this movie. I find it funny how the so-called tolerant are intolerant of people who have opinions that differ from theirs.

I doubt anyone will see it anyway

I appreciate the sentiment that some have about boycotting everything involving the Enders game film in order to send a message to orson Scott card in retaliation to his beliefs on gay marriage. I get where you are coming from, I do. With that being said, pull your arrogant minds out of your collectively ignorant minds. To do so would make you no better a person. He has his ideals and you have yours. Just because yours is popular doesn't make you all powerful. Our nation still maintains, kinda, a standard of freedom. Don't smother his while touting yours. Also, don't exclude yourself from experiencing one of the best novels in history being brought to the big screen. Don't do this to yourselves. Enjoy the layered entertainment. Card is an amazing writer so quit coming up with garbage controversy to squash his comic writing too. Depriving yourself from entertainment makes him no less rich so just enjoy what you can.

Some of the things that Orson Scott Card has said are straight up horrible, but I won't be not seeing the movie because of him. I won't be seeing it because it look's awful.

I'll say this, I am pro marriage equality, but I will NOT boycott this movie. Orson Scott Card is a fantastic writer, and should be judged on the merits of his work, not his beliefs. with that said, I hope they make Speaker for the Dead next. It's even better than Ender's Game!

This movie looks terrible and I wasn't going to see it....

But I'm going to boycott this article and see it now.

why is it that if a straight person were to boycott anything gay that person is a racist, but if a gay person boycotts anything by a straight person that person is vindicated?

I will be seeing this movie. I enjoyed the book (series) & have been wanting a good Enders Game movie for years. This looks like it will be a good one. There is lots of people that worked on this film & I don't think it is right to get mad at them.

If you don't agree with him & don't want to see it don't. But I hate when people make it sound if you see something you agree with it. Why can't it just be you want to see a good story & movie.

I've never been a fan of Asa Butterfield. Can't stand him. Probably won't see the movie.

So, what would happen if all the people in the 38 states that have banned same-sex marriage boycotted all the movies made by pro-gay marriage folks?

This is just another example of the total intolerance of "tolerant" liberals.

I'll probably see the movie, unless word of mouth is just terrible. And I never knew what Card's beliefs on marriage were until the brouhaha started with him at DC - and I still don't care.

I don't understand how anyone can be anti-gay marriage?

Who the [frick] is anyone to tell somebody else who they have the right to be with?

I find all this bigotry on here incredible and very telling about the character of some of these "Super Hero fans.

Orson Scott Card does not simply have an "opinion" about gay marriage. He actively seeks to outlaw it by donating large sums of his income to that quest. So if the gay community want to choose not to put more money into this mans hands...it is sort of a no brainer.

If Hitler was a great conversationalist...I still wouldn't invite him over for tea. So, the man doesn't like Jews...so what?

0bstreperous...you win the war on the biggest idiot of the day! Congratulations. With that arsenal of stupidity...no one else stood a chance.

Homosexuality and pedophilia are no more "mutually exclusive" than heterosexual child molestation.

So much for freedom of speech huh? Voltaire summed it up perfectly " I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.".

Gay nazis. Who would have thought? Censorship is a cery slippery slope, it opens the doors to ignorance, single mindedness and intolerance... Which is ironic in this case, as the people who created this "movement" consider themselves victims of the author's PERSONAL opinions.

The book (only read the first so far) is fantastic, and I could care less if Orson loves rainbow farting unicorns or if he likes eating his boogies. He is a talented writer and I appreciate talent. Could care less about his personal opinions, I don't want to be his friend, I skmply want to read his work. If he crosses the line (which is always a matter of personal opinion) I'll stop reading. But I won't tell other people to do the same cause I don't like it.

That's what Voltaire said. Today many on the Left say "I will defend what you say - as long as you agree with me. If you don't, you have to shut up."
MediaMan
MediaMan - 7/8/2013, 6:42 PM
False. The Left is far, far worse in that regard. It's not even close.

"If you believe two men should be raising a child your sick

People who support homosexuality insist gay men would 'never' molest a child even though statistics show most acts are committed by men on young boys"

I have two points to make here...

A. If you can't even get the right usage of "you're" right, then you shouldn't be allowed to raise a child either.

B. Just because the majority of pedophiles are gay, doesn't mean the majority of gays are pedophiles.

You really are a dumb one aren't you?
MediaMan
MediaMan - 7/9/2013, 2:29 AM
@Headcreeps- that's fine, but without writing a long essay, the fact is, there are huge differences, and the two sides are not equivalent.
CharlieKelly
CharlieKelly - 7/9/2013, 10:31 AM
@0bstreperous

So instead of making any valid points, your rebuttal was wishing cancer upon my family. Nice...

And on a very related note, whether someone was born gay or was a product of their upbringing doesn't mean they should have any less rights than you or I.

How many gay men and women are born/raised in "normal" households? Let me inform you that it is way more than those brought up in gay households.

You've yet to make a single argument with legs to stand upon and have just furthered the fact that individuals with true hate in their hearts such as yourself don't deserve the same freedoms as people who aren't even getting those freedoms do.
