JURASSIC WORLD Wins The Weekend Once Again; Fifth Film Ever To Cross $500M Domestic

"Open Paddock 9!" - Jurassic World has officially passed Avengers: Age Of Ultron to become the highest grossing domestic film of the year! The Chris Pratt-starrer has also become only the fifth film in history to cross the $500M mark at the North American box office! Come check it out!

There is no stopping Jurassic World

Universal's dinosaur sequel has won the weekend once again, bringing in over $54.2 million in its third weekend and barely edging out Pixar's Inside Out, which brought in $52.2 million in its second weekend. Elsewhere, Universal's latest release, Ted 2, finished #3 with an estimated $32.9 million.

The Chris Pratt-starrer has now become one of five films ever to cross $500 million at the North American box office. It's still too early to say how far Jurassic World will ultimately go, but reaching The Dark Knight's domestic total of $534.9 million seems like a given at this point, especially if it has a good Fourth of July weekend. Additionally, the Colin Trevorrow-directed film is now officially the highest grossing film domestically of the year, overtaking Marvel's Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Globally, Jurassic World currently stands at $1.238 billion, with an overseas collection of over $737.5 million.

Records are meant to be broken, but considering that Star Wars: The Force Awakens releases in December and Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice hits in March, two months not typically known for huge box office openings, it would be a stretch to assume either of those two will surpass Jurassic World's record-breaking opening weekend numbers. Also, considering the perfect storm surrounding Jurassic World's release, it would take a grand stroke of luck for Star Wars or Batman v. Superman to find themselves released under similar circumstances. Will they cross $1 billion at the box office? Almost definitely. Will they open at over $208M domestic, $524M worldwide? Probably not.

So, expect the dinosaurs to keep ruling for the foreseeable future!

Steven Spielberg returns to executive produce the long-awaited next installment of his groundbreaking Jurassic Park series, Jurassic World. Colin Trevorrow directs the epic action-adventure from a screenplay he wrote with Derek Connolly. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley join the team as producers.

Jurassic World will feature:
Director: Colin Trevorrow
Chris Pratt as Owen Grady
Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire Dearing
Vincent D'Onofrio as Vic Hoskins
Jake Johnson as Lowery Cruthers
Irrfan Khan as Simon Masrani
Nick Robinson as Zach Mitchell
Ty Simpkins as Gray Mitchell
B.D. Wong as Dr. Henry Wu
Brian Tee as Katashi Hamada
Omar Sy as Barry
Katie McGrath as Zara Young
Lauren Lapkus as Vivian
Judy Greer as Karen Mitchell
Andy Buckley as Scott Mitchell

Jurassic World is out tearing up theaters everywhere NOW!

Yeah, I'd be shocked if The Force Awakens doesn't end up demolishing these records, December release or not. Never underestimate the hordes of multi-generational Star Wars fanboys.

The only good thing about this news is that children still like dinosaurs. Otherwise, [frick] this.

Yep, if Jurassic World is doing this well, then Star Wars is going to take ALL the money.

I still wish I could've liked this movie. It's a sorry excuse for a Jurassic Park movie, though it's an entertaining enough B-movie monster flick. It didn't help that it feels like it was either edited to hell, or the script just didn't bother with tying up loose ends.

I don't begrudge it making so much money, though. At this point, I'm actually pretty curious to see how far it'll go.

I enjoyed the movie, but it could have done without the kids. I think with how well Jurassic World did a sequel is a sure thing. I just hope that one just sticks with adults. I have never seen anyone say they liked the kids in any of the JP movies, so just skip them and use adults instead.

I saw Inside Out this weekend. Amazing.

The CG for T-Rex looks so cartoony.

Damn!!! Who would of thought this movie would beat The Avengers this year at the Box Office. Can't wait for another visit to the park in JP5/JW2

@ckal I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it does. I've seen predictions of up to $300 million opening weekend, though that'd probably be a best-case scenario. Just based on the reaction to both trailers and the amount of traffic that ANY rumor concerning Star Wars gets, the hype is massive. It's just a question if that hype translates to ticket sales.

good movie. Solid action mixed with some great sets, nice effects and JP theme. Pratt was surprisingly good, Sy was well cast as his sidekick, kids actors were really decent. But it was really Irrfan Khan that almost stole the whole show.

On the flip side : Villains and their far fetched motivations. Also Howard character didn't quite work for me during second half of the movie.

I just have a hard time believing that Episode 7 will have a massive, record-breaking opening weekend. And it has nothing to do with how the movie looks -- I think it looks great. It has to do with the time of the year it's being released.

Jurassic World was released during the time of the year when it's a million degrees outside, kids are out of school, the family has no plans, no holidays, and no huge financial commitments to worry about. Meanwhile Episode 7 is coming out in December. Very few (sane) people will be camping out to see Episode 7 in freezing temperatures. The kids will be out of school, but the families will have holiday plans, and most people will be broke thanks to Christmas. I don't think it'll flop -- actually it will do extremely well, but it just won't have the $250 million opening weekend that people are predicting. Episode 8 on the other hand...

Next one will have to go Lost world/JP3 style or something along the lines of a virus getting unleashed due to the Dinosaurs that spreads risking human lives, a battlefield story ain't something i would want to see as it just sounds silly and no Dino/Human hybrids please

Only way there could be another reopening of the park is in another 20 years when some idiot thinks they could crack it, then all hell breaks lose...

Also could the I-Rex still be alive? was mixed with snakes, fish etc (crazy idea)

Shit movie.

But to each his or her own.

The sequels should be even worse. Might as well give up any connections to the original Jurassic Park concept.

Jurassic War indeed.

it's really weird because in term of monsters fighting monsters Jurassic World was closer to Godzilla movies than 2014 Godzilla. I guess.
