Bong Joon Ho fans have been anxiously awaiting word on the Academy Award-winning Parasite director's next project for two years now, and we finally have and update that's sure to make sci-fi aficionados very happy indeed.
Deadline reports that Joon Ho is set to helm an adaptation of Edward Ashton’s upcoming novel Mickey7 for Warner Bros, and he has The Batman star Robert Pattinson lined up to play the lead.
The novel will follow "a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous—even suicidal—the crew turns to Mickey7. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal… and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it."
Although the film will be inspired by the book, it's not expected to be completely faithful to the story. Bong will also produce the untitled project for his production company Offscreen alongside Dooho Choi for Kate Street Picture Company and Plan B.
The Mickey7 novel is expected to be published in the first quarter of 2022.
