POWER RANGERS: New Film & TV Series In Development From END OF THE F***ING WORLD Creator Jonathan Entwistle

While we've known a reboot was in the works since December, it looks like Hasbro is heading in a slightly different direction, with Jonathan Entwistle now set to develop both a new film and a TV series!

The Hollywood Reporter has learned today that Hasbro and Entertainment One have enlisted Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F***ing World; I Am Not Okay with This) to develop both a new Power Rangers film and television series, with him also expected to direct both projects.

Entwistle has been attached to the Power Rangers reboot since last December when it was still over at Paramount, but with Hasbro having acquired eOne late last year, the responsibilities have now shifted to their in-house production company, and Enwistle has become even more directly involved with the development of what's said to be a shared universe.

Nothing is confirmed just yet, but it's hard not to wonder if Entwistle may be planning an adaptation of the "Shattered Grid" arc from the popular BOOM! Studios comics, as he's expected to serve as a conductor of a connected story universe that will bridge across multiple platforms.

Jonathan has an incredible creative vision for this iconic and hugely successful franchise, and is hands down the right architect to join us as we reimagine the television and film worlds of this property. Across our slate, we are looking forward to working with the most talented storytellers as we take on Hasbro’s rich fan-favourite brands and build entertainment universes around them.,” said Nick Meyer, President, Film, eOne and Michael Lombardo, President, Global Television, eOne in a joint statement.

Entwistle also expressed his excitement in a brief statement of his own before taking to Twitter to tease the upcoming projects, “This is an unbelievable opportunity to deliver new Power Rangers to both new and existing generations of awaiting and adoring fans. We’ll bring the spirit of analog into the future, harnessing the action and storytelling that made this brand a success. I’m looking forward to working with the teams at eOne and Hasbro. Together, we can’t wait to share more Power Rangers with the world very soon.”

With Entwistle working on a completely original series, it remains to be seen what this may mean for the future of Power Rangers on TV. For now, fans can still look forward to Power Rangers Dino Fury, which will contain the twenty-eighth and twenty-ninth seasons of the long-running show, respectively.

I have pretty much the same feeling for Power Rangers than I have for Scooby-Doo: I would love to rediscover it as a series aimed towards young adults rather than children one day.

Tanner Buchanan (Cobra Kai) could be a good Ranger.

@Repian - He's literally the Tommy of Cobra Kai and he even has a similar look. The bad boy coming in half-way through the series to take the main character's spotlight and girl.

Power Rangers could really benefit from focusing on the coming of age aspect. I don't know about the later series, but the teenage drama was never a big focus. If it could blend that with badass action, the franchise can reach new levels of potential. I haven't seen the film but I think it was attempting to go in that direction. It just needs to be better tuned.

I’ve read the Boom stuff here and there on ComiXology and it’s decent

Always love the cover art too

So they will basically reboot this until something good-ish sticks to the wall.

This better be a sequel to the series, use Tommy and the other rangers again

I really wonder if they're gonna reboot the show too since a big part of the show is using the footage from the Japanese counterpart. Or if this will run in parallel to that since its so much cheaper to produce?

I'm glad they might bring in the Shattered Grid / multiverse stuff. The comics are SO GOOD and I wish they got the same treatment in the series and movies. There are great Power Rangers stories out there, we just need someone to bring them to live-action.

This guys pretty talented, I really enjoyed "The end of the f'n world", very weird, dark, and kinda funny. He seems like an odd choice for Power Rangers, but hey I'm interested af.

Make it a heart warming coming of age story with crazy and eccentric visuals (specifically its morphing scenes). Taika Waititi for Alpha 5 lol

I've never seen The End of the F***ing World but I've read the premise and it sounds f***ing messed up if you ask me and if you're gonna say you should give it a try please don't as I don't like being recommended things. They feel forced to me.

I hope it's an adaptation of the Lord Drakkon storyline from the comics. I think Boom Studios is the way to go.
