Star Wars: The Last Jedi may be divisive among fans of the franchise but things are still looking good at both the domestic and international box offices. On Thursday, the sequel earned $17.8 million in North America and $18.9 million overseas. That means the Rian Johnson helmed release made a total of $36.7 million yesterday to head into the weekend with a current worldwide haul of $610.5 million.
The movie still hasn't opened in China (it reaches the Middle Kingdom on January 5th) and that's a country which will obviously make a massive difference to The Last Jedi's ultimate box office gross.
So far, it certainly isn't overperforming but it's going to be a hit and you have to bear in mind that there's not quite as much buzz around this movie as there was with The Force Awakens. Despite that, The Last Jedi should pass $700 million worldwide by Saturday before sailing past the $800 million mark on Christmas Day. Are you planning on a repeat viewing?
