GODZILLA's Gareth Edwards Says He's Lucky To Be Directing A STAR WARS Spin-Off

Gareth Edwards will be joining the Star Wars universe along with J.J. Abrams and Josh Trank when the first spin-off movie will hit theaters in December 2016. Becoming a part of the series is major pressure no matter how famous you may or may not be, especially if you are a big fan. You want to make sure that you can do a good job at giving fans what they want and not disappointing anybody. Gareth Edwards recently opened up on getting the chance of a lifetime. “I am very, very lucky, living in a dream job at the moment. I’m not allowed to talk about it, it’s all very secretive, but it’s a dream come true. Star Wars is the reason I got into filmmaking, so to be given this opportunity is like a dream,” he said. “Now the pressure is on.” Because of Disney wanting to keep the movie a big secret, it is currently unknown what character the spin-off will be focusing on. Really, not much is even known about the movie aside from the fact that Edwards is directing and After Earth's Gary Whitta will be writing the screenplay. Gareth Edwards started becoming more well known in the movie business with Monsters in 2010, before moving on to this summer's Godzilla, both movies being known for the amazing visual effects. He said that as technology advances, we get to the point where we get to see everything we need to ever see in terms of visuals, which means movies need to start relying more on its story once again. “People could be innovative with computer graphics in the early '90s, but I think where we are right now is, we’ve reached that plateau where you can kind of do anything, and we have kind of done everything. So now, I hope, we are going to see people embracing strong stories, strong characters, as well as the spectacle. The honeymoon is over and it’s much more about storytelling, and I think we’ll create better films, hopefully,” Edwards said. What do you think the Star Wars spin-off that Edwards will be directing is? Sound off below.

Spot on. The story should always be the number one focus. Not impressive visuals, although those are a bonus.

I didn't love Godzilla, but I really liked it. I believe Edwards will make a really good Star Wars movie.
