When Disney's acquisition of LucasFilm and Star Wars was first revealed, a video series in which George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy discuss the future of the franchise began. Many have speculated that the fifth and final video in the series would announce big news concerning Episode VII, which is targeting a 2015 release and is currently being written by Michael Ardnt (Toy Story 3). Kennedy previously stated that news on the project will be confirmed sometime in January, suggesting that a director will finally be announced. However, the fifth and final installment in the video series has been uploaded, and those who were expecting a big announcement are bound to be disappointed. In the following video, Lucas and Kennedy talk about the process of transitioning LucasFilm to Walt Disney Pictures. Additionally, Kennedy suggests that these new Star Wars movies will "hold onto the spirit" that started the franchise back in 1977. "There are things that I want to preserve within the spirit of this company. And as it moves into Disney, I think that it’s vitally important to anything we create that we hold onto the spirit of what started all this."
