STAR WARS: Rey Movie Synopsis Supposedly Not Final...And Neither Is Rumored NEW JEDI ORDER Title

With Lucasfilm keeping fans in the dark when it comes to its upcoming Star Wars movies, it's no wonder we're starting to see conflicting rumours, and we now have an update on those New Jedi Order details.

Lucasfilm announced three new Star Wars movies at this past April's Celebration in London, and fans have since been left eager to learn more about what each of them has in store for this Galaxy Far, Far Away.

Whether it's James Mangold's project set during the "Dawn of the Jedi," Dave Filoni's rumoured "Heir to the Empire" adaptation, or Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Rey movie, they're all exciting in different ways. In the latter's case, we recently unearthed what might have been an early plot synopsis for the project.

Well, StarWarsNews.net (via SFFGazette.com) has since weighed in to reveal that a studio source has told them the synopsis isn't accurate.

Apparently, it doesn't represent the story which Knight was working on prior to the WGA strike, leaving us to wonder whether it may, in fact, be an indication of what Damon Lindelof had planned for the project before he parted ways with Lucasfilm over apparent "creative differences."

As for the rumoured New Jedi Order title, that's said to be a working title and not what we'll see adorning posters and trailers a couple of years from now.

So, a disheartening update in some ways but one which at least clarifies what's happening.

We recently learned that Disney and Lucasfilm are still planning to get cameras rolling by next April. On the one hand, that makes sense as it's a long way off, though depending on when the strike ends, that pre-production window is likely to be drastically shortened.

The studio presumably feels that, assuming the strike ends within the next month or two, it's enough time for Knight to finish writing and for pre-production work to begin in earnest.

Anything beyond, that, though, and we can't help but think another delay might be on the table (some fans have already questioned how wise it is to have this Star Wars movie open mere weeks after Avengers: The Kang Dynasty).

What has been confirmed is the fact this still-untitled Star Wars project will be directed by Obaid-Chinoy and is set 15 years after the last events of the Skywalker Saga. We'll reunite with Rey and follow the story of rebuilding the New Jedi Order and the powers that rise to tear it down.

@NGFB - @JoshWilding can you do more than post baseless rumors and lies that never happen?

Trash. More Disney Girl Power crap instead of just focusing on good characters and good ideas.
Rey trains the next generation of Mary Sues...

@SafeSpace -

and this leaves plenty of time to pair Rey up with a thespian or a black dude like pretentious hack JJ Abrams originally wanted.

Instead of finally giving us something fresh & new like everyone wants.

Mickey the Rat pissing all over the Star Wars legacy yet again.

Oh you mean Disney rushed a half baked idea into production only to realize they have a lot of development left to do? I'm shocked to my core....

@TheVandalore - Well, they announced it, that much is for sure. Everything else has existed solely in the fevered imaginations of clickbait authors and extremely online CHUDs.

Very interesting pitch for a BETTER Force Awakens.

I don't agree with everything, but if people on YouTube can come up with pitches like this.
Just give me a break. Star Wars is dead.

@TempleRod - It’s okay. Very well-written, but as much as having Luke, Han, and Leia together was needed, making them the main protagonists doesn’t seem like the best creative decision. They should be supporting characters. Also, I generally don’t like stories about chasing special objects, but this was better than most. The Republic/Imperial Remnant context is interesting.

Personally, I think for a *sequel trilogy* (I.e., one that concludes the Skywalker saga), it would have been more interesting to have a story about a fledgling, exiled Jedi Order vs a Vader cult in the context of a protracted cold war between the Galactic Alliance and an Imperial Remnant - the overall story being about the new generation finishing what the OT heroes started and achieving the restoration of [a better] Republic.

The Rise of Skywalker or The Last Jedi weren't really representative either, but they still had those titles. New Jedi Order is a solid title regardless, same with Dawn of the Jedi and Heir to the Empire

Well obviously. It’s a Star Wars movie announcement so it will probably never be made

Weren’t there rumors only a little while ago that Lindelof’s version was going to have an old Rey training two pupils? This seems to line up with that.

But “this doesn’t represent the story Knight was working on” is an odd way of denying the rumor, which suggests that Knight was probably working off the same story (hopefully trying to make it something other than a rehashing of Luke with Kylo Ren and then Rey).

But honestly I don’t really have much hope for them getting this right. The sequel trilogy was so poorly established and executed, and so narrowly focused on Rey as a self-sufficient, utterly independent pre-formed protagonist, that it really didn’t leave any room for future storytelling.

They need to move on from the sequel trilogy and tell a new story, on the same scale as the Skywalker saga, set hundreds or thousands of years later. But I suspect the issue is that there are few people these days who are interested in telling those sorts of stories.

I think this is actually an accurate synopsis and Disney are trying to do damage control. This came from Production Weekly, not some random rumor site.

Unfortunately I think this might be the next Star Wars film that actually gets made and released. But I would more that happy to be wrong.

Nice to see that Disney finally has a plan for star wars and that they're sticking to it! Lol
