STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Concept Art Shows Princess Leia Wielding A PURPLE Lightsaber!

Some newly surfaced concept art for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker reveals that Princess Leia was supposed to wield a purple lightsaber, just like Mace Windu's, during her training with Luke Skywalker...

The Star Wars sequels made a long list of mistakes, but fans did appreciate the flashbacks in The Rise of Skywalker that revealed Princess Leia had briefly trained to become a Jedi. We learned that Leia chose to focus on her political duties and raising her son, Ben Solo, but a glimpse of a training session with Luke Skywalker was one of the movie's better moments.

Leia's lightsaber came into play during the final battle, but some newly surfaced concept art shows that director J.J. Abrams considered giving the Princess and General a purple blade rather than a blue one.

It's typically considered that individuals who used a purple lightsaber generally shared an affinity with both the Light and Dark sides of the Force. They demonstrate attributes such as instability, high energy, and the relentless determination to accomplish any feat that they are subjected to.

That sure sounds like the tough-as-nails Leia Organa for the most part, right?

Carrie Fisher's death limited The Rise of Skywalker's ability to tell the story with Leia it originally planned to, but re-used footage and deleted scenes went some way towards giving the character and actor a fitting send-off in the Skywalker Saga's final chapter. We'd like to see Leia's story continue in other ways, though, as spending time with the young Leia in Obi-Wan Kenobi was a blast.

It appears Lucasfilm has no plans to revisit legacy characters with different actors (at least not during periods we've spent time in before) so we're not going to bank on that happening. At least not in the foreseeable future, anyway.

You'd think her experience with the dark side would mean she'd steer clear of using the dark side. But what do I know? Unlike the people at lucasfilms I actually watch the movies

Rise of Skywalker is the worst star wars film of all-time. Makes the prequels look like godfather level of filmmaking🤡

@AmazingFILMporg - The movie was an absolute disgrace.
I wasn’t even embarrassed by it when I first saw it. It was basically like watching Britney Spears shaving her head in 2007.
We saw the warning signs with the previous movies and we knew it was a train wreck, but we just couldn’t turn away from the downfall.

Love a purple lightsaber.

Ok, first off, I think the lightsaber is more pink than purple, not that it really matters.
Second, it's Luke who carries it, not Leia. In both pictures, she has the blue saber.

Anyway, I always thought that it was a waste (and kinda boring) to give Leia a blue lightsaber. It should have been a "new" color like pink, orange or yellow imo.

@ChrisRed - I mean, none of those are colors we haven't seen before in extended media. Besides, blue is for a jedi guardian. A guardian is effectively the soldier of the jedi, which matches Leia pretty well.

“the lightsaber is purple!!”

Oh, does that mean she’s a super Jedi?

“No…”

She’s some kind of Master now?

“No…”

Oh, what significance does a purple lightsaber have?

“None whatsoever.”

The magic of Star Wars.

@Havenless - The color spoke more to how you perceived the force than what type of jedi, or sith, you were imo. We know in the "film" look was afraid to train Leia, so that could be where the color originated from. A lot of her father's view of the force probably resonated with Leia, but not his use of it. TROS, suffered not just from bad writing, but he loss of Carrie Fisher much in the same way Black Panther has.

@Havenless - it does have meaning though. Specifically a purple lightsaber means a jedi who, while mainly aligned with the light side of the force, will utilize the dark side from time to time. You can see this with the only jedi on film to use the purple lightsaber, mace windu, who is the only jedi master to regularly show signs of anger.

That definitely would've been done because they thought it was cool, and no other reason. That was already sorta the case with Mace's, but atleast with that character it made sense. Glad they gave Leia a blue one, although a green one could've worked too.

@bkmeijer1 - and in fairness, by that point lightsaber color wasn't all that well established. Blue was the color of the jedi, red was the color of sith, and green was just there to stand out against the tatooine sky (though later hinted at being for higher ranked jedi like yoda). But after episode 2 the lightsaber colors have been expanded on on fascinating ways that identify more about them.

And that also annoyed me when it was revealed rey had a yellow lightsaber, basically saying she's amazing at everything.

@Origame - that's true. Going by what has been established since the OT/PT, I think Leia having purple or Rey having yellow doesn't really work for me. It did work for SLJ though

Purple and green are the best saber colors.
