Writer Tony Gilroy Reportedly Made $5 Million From ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY Reshoots

According to a new report, it seems that writer Tony Gilroy's involvement with the controversial reshoots for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was pretty costly for the production of the anticipated prequel.

It looks like Jyn Erso and her band of Rebels won't be the only ones absconding with something valuable at the conclusion of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. According to The Hollywood Reporter, writer Tony Gilroy (of the Bourne film series), who was brought in to rewrite and help oversee reshoots for the Gareth Edwards-directed film, will end up with a $5 million paycheck for his services.

The publication details that Gilroy, as previously rumored, was brought in to rewrite certain scenes for Rogue One, including the film's ending, for a price tag of $200,00 per week, along with taking an "active" role in post production with Edwards.

Edwards, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, and the film's cast have all denied any sort of serious impact from the reshoots, which were rumored to consist of almost 50% of the film at one point. While Gilroy's involvement seems to have been pricey, we'll have to wait to see the overall effect when the film (which just wrapped up post-production) releases in two weeks. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker. Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel are producing, with John Knoll and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers.

The movie opens in U.S. theaters on December 16, 2016.

@Jayman - Part of the reason I'm excited for it is because I feel no pressure for it. I really needed TFA to be fantastic, and luckily it delivered. This, however, is no big deal if it's not amazing, which is kinda why I think I'll enjoy it all the more.

Of course I hope it's actually a good movie, always great to have more good Star Wars movies, but I'll probably enjoy it even if it does end up having problems.

@Mark45 - That sounds great man i'm glad your excited for it. You raise some good points and insight. I hope its a hit so its successful for Felicity Jones. So she could get cast in a marvel or DC role and other roles. But also I want it to work so we get more Star Wars anthology films. But if it turns out to be a mixed reception. I imagine it can still be enjoyable that's great to hear. I beleive a film can still be enjoyed. Even if it doesn't get completely positive reviews

Off topic but I finally watched Suicide Squad (I didn't get to watching it in the theater so I waited for the extended to pass my thoughts)

Negatives
1)The editing earlier in the movie was crap. I mean more jarring than the theatrical BvS.
2)Some of the flashbacks are all over the place.
3)I found it a bit too convenient for the the team to be formed just before a bad event.
4) Should of shown the human side of entrantress more.

Positives
1)JOKER. HOLY SH*T. I really don't understand why people hate it. Is it Heath Ledger's level? Nooo. But I didn't need it to be. Ledger's Joker is a work of art but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy anything less. This was more of a pop corn fun take of Joker. The grills didnt bother me because I didn't pay attention to them. When people kept referring him to "Rapper Joker", I was expecting some Eminem thug like Joker but his mannerisms and performance overall is what I expect from the joker. It was simply the mob boss aesthetic that was a departure. I liked how he kept changing wardrobes.

2) The Joker and Harley dynamic. I'm going to be honest, I never really was that interested with the whole Joker and Harley romance in the comics. Harley always came across as an accessory to Joker. I know she loved him but I never felt like he felt anything for her. Sure, he got jealous sometimes but the whole thing felt one dimensional on the joker's part but this movie changed that. I loved how after she fell into the acid, he seemed like he was about to leave but he hesitated and went after her.

3)The Helicarrier Joker scene
Dear Lord, that has got to be one of the greatest Joker scenes I have ever scene. I felt like I was seeing Joker from Batman Endgame come to life. He was fricking crazy! When he said "Come on baby", I was getting goosebumps!

4) Deadshot - I was surprised how much I cared for him and his daughter

@Highflyer - I also thought going practical with the henchman wasn't a good idea. They were really boring and should of been more threatening.

I hope this movie is great, but I just can't get behind Felicity Jones's character. Everything we've seen from Jyn Erso thus far just hasn't excited me all that much. Her performance just seems a bit monotone and some of her dialogue quite bland.

@Spodermug - plus she looks way too much like the girl from TFA lol. Every trailer or tv spot I get them mixed up

"Sir we cannot pay you this amount, it is lubricious!"

- Followed by a long silence, Tony slides the script accross the table.

"Cut the check."

- Approving nods all around.
