We're not sure how much of a spoiler this is considering he was at the world premiere, but Sir Ben Kingsley is indeed set to reprise the role of Iron Man 3's Trevor Slattery in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. He posed as "The Mandarin" at the behest of A.I.M. and was taken from prison by the Ten Rings in the One-Shot short movie, "All Hail The King."
Talking to Entertainment Tonight, Kingsley opened up about returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"As you just saw, I was talking to Kevin Feige. What a lovely man. Big heart, generous, kind, and for the people, and to make people happy. Simple, simple, and lovely, and essential. And thanks to Kevin and Robert Downey Jr. and Drew Pearce and Shane Black, I am in this movie, and I'm a member of the Marvel family, because their welcome on Iron Man 3 was so astonishing and generous that I'm still with Marvel again. And I'm delighted to be here!"
We don't know what sort of role Trevor will play in Shang-Chi, but the fact that Wenwu didn't kill him might suggest that the drunken actor has cleaned himself up and pledged his loyalty to the Ten Rings?
That question will be answered early next month, but Awkwafina appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night and shared the second clip from the Marvel Studios movie which sees Shang-Chi and Katy sitting on a plane together discussing how the hero's name is actually supposed to be pronounced.
Check that out below (the clip should start playing immediately, but begins at the 6:20 mark).
"Marvel Studios' 'Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings' stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization," reads a brief synopsis shared by Marvel Studios a couple of months ago.
The movie also stars Tony Leung as Wenwu, Awkwafina as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy and Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, as well as Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu and Ronny Chieng. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay by David Callahan, Destin Daniel Cretton, and Andrew Lanham the movie is currently set to be released exclusively in theaters on September 3, 2021.
