As you've probably heard, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu has come under fire on social media for some resurfaced Reddit posts and comments. Unsurprisingly, the main three or four doing the rounds online have been taken out of context, and while they haven't necessarily been blown out of proportion, are definitely less damning than they first appear.
The Twitter thread below does a great job of clearing things up; ultimately Liu shared some opinions that, while not exactly well-expressed, by no means appear to be coming from a bad place.
One point that has understandably upset some people is the Shang-Chi star appearing to compare being gay to being a paedophile. However, read his full post, and you'll see that he was simply sharing his own opinion that our sexual preferences are genetic (he definitely wasn't saying that loving someone of the same sex is equivalent to abusing a child).
Liu certainly made some mistakes here, but these comments are quite a few years old and you have to believe the actor has grown, educated himself, and matured somewhat. Again, they don't paint him in the best light, but does he really deserve to be cancelled? That seems a tad harsh, to say the least!
Regardless, we'll let you make your own minds up, and we certainly don't blame anyone for feeling upset or angry about Liu's past remarks.
