Bruce Timm returns to the Dark Knight's world for an Elseworlds adventure set in the 1960s: Batman: Soul of the Dragon. Set for release on Digital on January 12 and Blu-ray on January 26, it's a fun, pulpy adventure which finds Bruce Wayne training under a master sensei. It is here that Bruce, along with other elite students, is forged in the fire of the martial arts discipline. However, the lifelong bonds they form will be put to the test when a deadly menace arises from their past.
It will take the combined efforts of Batman, world-renowned martial artists Richard Dragon, Ben Turner, and Lady Shiva and their mentor O-Sensei to battle the monsters of this world and beyond!
Black Dynamite, Arrow, and The Dark Knight star Michael Jai White takes on the role of Bronze Tiger, delivering a unique new take on the character which should definitely go over well with fans. The actor is, of course, also known for taking on the title role in 1997's Spawn, and when we recently got to speak to Michael, we had to ask whether he would consider a cameo in Todd McFarlane's planned reboot.
"I haven't spoken...I feel like Todd has been talking about a reboot for, I don't know, what, 23 years now? So, it seems to be a talking point [Laughs], but that's all I know," he laughed. "I don't have any control over that, but if I was asked, out of sheer respect of me playing Spawn, I would do what I can as thanks to the fans. I don't tend to register Spawn talk any more after hearing it for 23 years!"
It's great to hear that White is open to the idea of returning to the Spawn franchise, especially if it gives fans of that original movie a moment to enjoy. Unfortunately, he's pretty spot on when it comes to the status of the reboot, and it definitely sounds like he's ready to move on from his brief time as the character.
Stay tuned for much more from Michael (and co-star Kelly Hu) over the next week!
