SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME - Kevin Feige Working Closely With Sony On The Movie's Marketing Campaign

We're all anxiously waiting for a first look at Spider-Man: No Way Home, and while Sony Pictures is in charge of the marketing campaign, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is working closely with them.

The Hollywood Reporter recently caught up with Walt Disney Studios Marketing President Asad Ayaz for a fascinating and insightful conversation about the work that goes into promoting their biggest movies and TV shows. Loki, Black Widow, Eternals, and more were all touched on, but it's his comments about Spider-Man: No Way Home that have really grabbed the attention of many fans.

The desperation for a trailer for the movie has become apparent online, but it seems Sony Pictures is waiting for...something. The prevailing theory is that we need to see more of Loki before the curtain is pulled back on this threequel, but Ayaz explained that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is working closely with Sony on how Spider-Man: No Way Home is marketed.

"Sony is absolutely handling the marketing for Spider-Man," the Walt Disney Studios Marketing head explained. "Kevin Feige and his team are closely partnering with the Sony team on those. So there is coordination in that sense. We also make sure we are aware of who is dropping what when. But we are not working together on the campaigns because it’s their film. They are handling it but there is a level of coordination to make sure that it’s a win-win for everybody."

This is certainly intriguing, and makes sense given how important this movie is likely going to be for Phase 4. It's clear at this point that Spider-Man: No Way Home will explore the Multiverse, and with the Sorcerer Supreme set to appear, it will likely lead directly into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Secrecy is the name of the game with the MCU, though, and Ayaz stressed that this is the case with a movie like Eternals, in particular. "If you saw the Eternals teaser, it really gave nothing away," he said, addressing the unrevealing nature of the trailer. "It’s just an introduction to the characters and tone. It was a very, very early tease. We have so much more to do on that."

We definitely recommend you check out the full interview because it offers a lot of insight into how Disney markets its movies and TV shows, while also teasing what's to come in the rest of 2021.

Ayaz is right about Eternals, and the reason he mentions its a good thing Marvel is (heavily) involved in the marketing.

Sony's marketing never really has been convincing, so I'm hoping Marvel can keep them on a leash enough not to give too much away already.

@bkmeijer - Sony's marketing until now was always very "fire out of ever canon at once" to achieve the maximum amount of hype with the trailer. Forgetting that anticipating unseen scenes makes a huge draw for movies as well

@Blergh - yeah that sums it up pretty well

1st thing Feige has to tell Sony is to stop spoiling your own movies! Even in the trailers we see 30 secs of each of their biggest action scene or biggest reveal.

@mastakilla39 - the amazing spiderman 2 mareting the end fight with the rhino is beyond mind-numbing

So feige is telling them not to release a trailer. Good to hear.

Oh that's why they haven't shown anything. Sony would have already spoiled the 3rd act at this point.

The thing about this being so bloated with cameos n themes n whatnot is they have so many things to ‘spoil’ in the trailer. Maguire, Garfield, Charlie Cox, Molina, Multiverse, Dafoe, etc. Easily give a lot away while keeping a lot underwraps

@Godzillakartt - I'm sure he's more heavily confirmed by outlets than the likes of Garfield n Maguire, but none have actually been confirmed bar Molina spilling the beans. Should've clarified i'm going by rumour lol but again heavy rumours, who knows !

@Godzillakartt - Honestly I hope he's in it over every other rumoured appearance. Cox deserves it the most! Carried the entire Defenders series

I'm willing to bet that we aren't going to see this trailer until the Tuesday after Loki's finale, at the *earliest*. I know they don't want to take any attention off of Loki until it's time to, and that makes sense from a business prospective.

I'm not expecting it during Loki's run, and I'm definitely not expecting it attached to Black Widow. I'm very open to being wrong about that though.

@FoiledCranium - Definitely agree re; Loki finishing, also think that's to do with the multi-verse stuff that's gonna come about at the end of Loki that'll consequently lead into Spider-Man (if the rumours are true)

I want a series of fake ads for Thor : Love and Thunder starring Luke Hemsworth as Thor, Matt Damon as Loki, Sam Neill as Odin, Keira Knightley as Jane Foster (Star Wars joke) and Michelle Rodriguez as Valkyrie.

More excited in Spider-Man 2 on PS5 than phase 2. Penny, penny.

That's the genius behind the initiative to control the narrative of their movies on social media.

Good, I'll never forget what Sony did to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 marketing. They spoiled the hell out of that movie, I should say the same for Homecoming too.

Feige is like "Jesus [frick]ing christ, hype for this movie is so high we don't even need to waste marketing money on releasing a trailer" and he's right.
