SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME's Amazing U.S Opening Sees It Break More Records; Nears $600 Million Worldwide

Spider-Man: No Way Home has shattered everyone's expectations this weekend, breaking records in North America and nearing the $600 million mark already at the worldwide box office. Read on for details...

We all know Spider-Man does whatever a spider can, and that seemingly includes breaking box office records! According to Sony Pictures, Spider-Man: No Way Home has grossed an estimated $253 million during its opening weekend at the North American box office, beating Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($247.9 million) to have the third-highest debut of all time.

An amazing $73.8 million Sunday means it's only just behind Avengers: Infinity War ($257 million), and should it exceed expectations today, it might just beat that movie's record. Avengers: Endgame remains at #1, though, with the biggest opening weekend ever: $357 million.

This pre-pandemic level of success shows how much interest there is in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the threequel has already grossed 1.5x more than Eternals did during its entire run. Other records include Sony Pictures biggest opening ever and the biggest December domestic box office debut.

"This weekend’s historic Spider-Man: No Way Home results, from all over the world and in the face of many challenges, reaffirm the unmatched cultural impact that exclusive theatrical films can have when they are made and marketed with vision and resolve," Tom Rothman, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group, tells Deadline"All of us at Sony Pictures, are deeply grateful to the fabulous talent, both in front of and behind the camera, that produced such a landmark film. Thanks to their brilliant work, this Christmas everyone can enjoy the big screen gift of 2021’s mightiest Super Hero —your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man."

Overseas, Spider-Man: No Way Home has similarly exceeded expectations with $334 million since opening on Wednesday. As a result, the movie has already grossed $587 million, meaning it's closing in on that $600 million mark without a China release. Within days, we should see it become 2021's highest-grossing title globally, topping both No Time to Die and F9: The Fast Saga

Based on these numbers, we can't help but think Warner Bros. could regret releasing The Matrix Resurrections so soon after Spider-Man: No Way Home. With that and Christmas now right around the corner, something tells us this should be an interesting week for box office revenue...

@Doomsday8888 - Not to mention, they didn't even market Tobey and Andrew. But I guess the leaks did that, lol

Actually? Same.
But if you were to tell me that they weren't even HOPING to see em, then i'd say you're bullshitting me.

That's more than enough to push someone to go see the movie.

@Doomsday8888 -

They seriously didnt know. They are real casuals. Like the majority of people that watch MCU films but after the films over they dont go online and look for easter eggs and go deep into what everything means. Truly just regular fans that watch these films as block busters and nothing more🐶

I get it, they didn't know if they would see em, but c'mon man, you're telling me they didn't even watch the trailers?
How can you watch Raimi's Dock Ock, Green Goblin, Sandman, TASM's Lizard and Electro (sort of) and NOT wonder if those Spidey's are gonna show up as well?

Aight, maybe you have naive friends, but word of mouth ought to count something here for the rest of the world.

@Doomsday8888 - there’s people who couldn’t tell you which movie most of those villains came from. My father watches all the comic book movie, along with everything else on the entire internet, and doesn’t know what’s in the mcu and what’s not

@KWilly - well, actually, in my opinion....Sony might be making it like a leak and making it as a marketing strategy to make people more skeptical about No Way Home.... are Tobey and Andrew in? yes or not? and media will go bombarding Tobey and Andrew for the leaked with question, unofficially it did marketing them their involvement in No Way home

I contributed to this gross twice this weekend. This is definitely making $1 billion and without a China release. That’s crazy.
TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 12/19/2021, 1:35 PM
@MovieMonster - yeah that’s def happening. Mendelson on Forbes said now we see where it lands in between avengers 1 and 3, so 1.519 billion to 2.048 billion. What’s crazy though is how close this movie will get to a billion domestic! Dude I never called that one. Legs like last Jedi get it in the 700’s, legs like rogue one get it near 900. Bro that’s insane.

@MovieMonster - It's a great thing for Hollywood to have films make this type of money without relying on China, which uses its film market to manipulate them.
