Don’t just accept movies as they are, question the hell out of them! Here are 51 random questions off the top of my head for TNSASM2 (“The Not So Amazing Spider-Man 2″). Beware, some minor nit-picks ahead!

Here we go:

1)  Why do we care about Peter’s parents?

2)  Why was Aleksei (Rhino) stealing Plutonium?

3)  Why did Gwen’s speech give away the ending (I mean, more than the trailers already did)?

4)  Why does Peter think he’s so cool? He kissed Gwen on stage and high-fived the principal. Isn’t that considered “cool” in high school? Wasn’t Peter supposed to be a nerd?

5)  Why is Peter seeing Captain Stacy, but not Uncle Ben?

6)  Why didn’t Max have a blueprint holder?

7)  Why did the shocks from the eels fix Max’s teeth?

8)  Why did Spidey ditch the action to go and find a fireman hat?

9)  Why did they use such a cliched storyline for Electro? Hasn’t the “fan turned foe” thing been done like a gazillion times before?

10)  Why was Electro trying to kill Spidey?

11)  What are the chances that Gwen met both Max AND Harry in the exact same elevator on two separate occasions?

12)  Why didn’t Gwen see Harry when she first entered the elevator?

13)  How was Harry able to break into a high-security prison so easily?

14)  Why was Dr. Kafka so awesome?

15)  Why couldn’t Electro just zap himself out of that thing they were holding him in? He did it when Harry was there, so why couldn’t he do it earlier?

16)  What happened to the “you do realize you locked me in a prison that runs on electricity” thing? Did Max conveniently forget that he could control all of that?

17)  Why did Richard Parker set up that secret lab in an old, abandoned, underground train station? Was he really hoping that his son would, by some unbelievable coincidence, find it decades later?

18)  Richard worked for Oscorp, and I’m assuming he had a very high position and was paid very well, so why didn’t they set up a college fund or something for Peter before leaving?

19)  It’s already the sequel, so why haven’t we been introduced to Jameson yet? He’s such a crucial part of Spider-Man mythology.

20)  Why didn’t Peter know that magnetizing the web-shooters would do the trick? Isn’t he supposed to be a genius?

21)  Why couldn’t Electro kill Spidey? Couldn’t he have just passed through him like he did with all those guards at Ravencroft? Sure, Spidey’s fast, but he’s not “lightning” fast! (Ba-dum-tsss.)

22)  Why do we care about Aunt May’s job as a nurse?

23)  Why do we care about those two random planes at the end?

24)  Why did Harry wait until Electro was “dead” to show up? Why not tag-team against Spidey or something?

25)  Why is Gwen’s death her own fault? Isn’t it being Peter’s fault the whole idea of it? So that he can learn to keep his superhero life separate from his personal life?

26)  Why was Peter willing to move to England, when he clearly knew there was some shady corporation that was up to no good in the city? That alone proves how Webb misunderstands the character.

27)  What kind of crime was he planning on fighting in England? Plagiarism?

28)  What are the chances that Peter listened to Gwen’s speech on the EXACT same day Rhino went on a rampage? So if Rhino decided to do that one day before, then no one would’ve stopped him?

29)  Why did Peter quit being Spider-Man? As far as I know, in the comics, he upped his game and spent more time in the suit helping people after Gwen died.

30)  Why is Harry setting up the Sinister Six again?

31)  What is the Man in Shadows’ role in all of this?

BONUS ROUND:

32)  Why is Peter so confident?

33)  Why is the plot so incoherent?

34)  Why did we pay to see a 2.5 hour trailer?

35)  Why was this movie subtitled “Rise of Electro” in some countries, when Goblin was clearly the main villain?

36)  Why is Rhino on the movie posters and Blu-Ray/DVD covers when he was in the movie for just ten seconds?

37)  Why is the dialogue so awful? It’s seriously laughable sometimes.

38)  Why is Peter such a douche?

39)  Why do we have two main villains?

40)  Why does this movie waste so much potential?

41)  Why is this movie made for such shallow audiences?

42)  Why is this movie so cheesy?

43)  What’s with the tone shifts every five seconds?

44)  Why were so many crucial scenes cut?

45)  What’s with the DOFP trailer at the end?

46)  Why is this movie called “amazing” when it’s clearly not?

47)  Who thought this Twilight-inspired, hipster reboot would be a good idea? I’d like to meet that guy and kick him in his tallywacker until he passes out.

48)  Why is the movie more focused on setting up future sequels, instead of giving us a compelling, self-contained story here and now?

49)  Where is the great power/great responsibility theme?

50)  What is this movie about?

51)  Why does this movie exist?

Wow, that was kind of fun! I think I’ll do this “51 Questions” thing with all the other Spidey films, too. Heck, I might even make a Part 2 of this one…

Thanks for reading,

Henry

I didn't hate the movie, but didn't think it was all that good either. I'll attempt to answer your questions though.

1) We don't

2) Villain stuff

3) Poor Writing

4) Because he's Spider-man. He thinks he's invincible, he has super powers, naturally his confidence would go up in the process.

5) Well, he came to terms with Uncle Ben's death at the end of the first movie when he was listening to the phone message, so it doesn't seem to be bothering him anymore. As for why he's seeing Capt Stacy, it's pretty obvious, so I won't bother explaining,

6) For the gags!

7) No idea

8) He went to go get the fire department, they gave him a firefighters hat so they could portray how everyone (even the emergency responders) love hime.

9) I don't know about gazillion, but I guess it was "unique" to Spider-man's rogues gallery, not cinema in general.

10) He clearly had some kind of mental problem, it wasn't flat out stated, but was heavily implied. With the fact that he had an obsessive infatuation with Spider-man, lack of friends/social skills, trouble maintaining eye contact with people (seen during his conversations with Smythe and Gwen) it's safe to assume he had some kind of problem. He felt betrayed by Spider-man when the Snipers took a shot at him, thinking that Spider-man would protect him/be his friend. Couple that with his (assumed) mental disorder, and newfound powers, that he would lose his mind and go from loving you to hating you.

11) Pretty good. I guess.

12) He seemed like he was leaning to the side, and she was frantically trying to evade Oscorp security. Have you ever been so preoccupied with something that you kind of tune everything else out? Once she presumed she was safe in the elevator, she notice Harry.

13) No idea.

14) His lipstick

15) Well he was in a containment cell that neutralized his ability to absorb Electricity on his own. Remember when Harry shocked him with the Taser? That gave him enough juice to access his abilities. Why didn't he do it at any other point in the movie? Well, his powers probably weren't as developed yet, or something. He probably got an adrenaline rush thinking "I can help someone, I can be a hero!" and pushed himself to new limits.

16) After he said that, Kafka started to run tests on him. I assume part of that was neutralizing his powers somehow. Poorly explained, obviously.

17) I don't think it was meant for Peter to find. It's not like the message on the tape was addressed to Peter. Again, poor writing.

18) I don't think was addressed at all during the movie... Aunt May's financial issues were for paying the mortgage. Not for college.

19) Where would you have put him in the movie? Enough was going on, and in the digital age, why would a photographer really need to go to the publisher, when e-mail and direct deposit are available?

20) To give Gwen something to do.

21) You could say that about a lot of movie villains with "god-like" abilities. Real reason? The movie would be over.

22) Because she's an important figure in Peter's life and that sets up the "drama" of the electricity going out at the end.

23) I think that part should have been left out, but because there are tons of innocent people on the planes.

24) Harry didn't seem like he wanted to kill Spider-man at first. He just wanted to cure himself. When he tried to cure himself with the venom and went goblin-mode he obviously became angry with Spider-man, shifting blame onto him. He knew Spider-man would be fighting Electro at that point, so he decided to come by. I don't think the fact that Electro was dead/the timing of it is necessarily a "plot hole"

25) They did kind of butcher that in my opinion.

26) I think that was to show that he's so in love with Gwen that he'd give everything up just to be with her. Intended to add to the drama when she dies. Obviously his affection for Gwen was a moot point by that time, but I digress.

27) Not sure how to answer this.

28) I don't think listening/not listening to Gwen's Speech would've stopped him from stopping a mechanized rhino shooting up the city. It's not like they have supervillains [frick]ing up the city every day of the week. Again, it's a MOVIE, and it's to make it a feel good moment.

29) Because he was grieving? This isn't the comics. So that's an invalid argument in my opinion.

30) To do villain stuff.

31) I'm sure all will be revealed.

BONUS ROUND:

32) Because he's [frick]ing Spider-man

33) SONY

34) I disagree that it was a 2.5 hour trailer. Really only the last 5-minutes or so was devoted to the Sinister Six.

35) Deception? They thought they could make more money that way?

36) Why not?

37) It seems like they tried to amp up the campiness factor that the Raimi had, but it clearly didn't work at some points.

38) I don't think he's a douce.

39) Again, why not?

40) Poor decision making and too much corporate involvement.

41) I don't think they set out with that in mind.

42) The Raimi movies are extremely cheesy. They just handled it in a way that made it tasteful. They obviously heard complaints from the first ASM movie that it was TOO DARK/GRITTY, so they went in the other direction.

43) I think you're over exaggerating.

44) We don't know what the "crucial scenes" are, you're just assuming.

45) 20th Century Fox had a 3-picture deal with Marc Webb for directing. He bailed on another directing gig to direct The Amazing Spider-man 2. In return, Sony allowed Fox to advertise DOFP at the end of SPider-man 2.

46) I don't think they thought the movie was anything less than amazing. Even then, it's about branding, not about quality. It's so they can differentiate between the old movies and the new.

47) Avi Arad, probably. I don't see how it's "Twilight inspired" is it Peter's hair?

48) Because studios are in the franchise/universe business now. Marvel has outdone every studio when it comes to world building and tastefully setting up sequels, so Sony is trying and failing to compete.

49) You don't think him going to stop Rhino at the end was a function of that?

50) It's about Peter juggling his Spider-man life and personal relationships. Like every other Spider-man movie ever.

51) Because Spider-man is/was a popular character and they'd be stupid not to make Spider-man movies as long as they have the rights.

You have some legitimate points in here, but other questions can be answered if you just fill in the gaps yourself, rather than have trivial information spoon fed to you.

Damn, the criticisms laid out by some people are so easily answerable if you paid attention to the movie rather than consciously thinking of reasons to hate it while in the theater. This is just as bad as Man of Steel.

I got ONE question...

Why was this made? :P

Joke lol, wasn't all bad just a bit meh, like Spidey5194 MOS wasn't great either, just didn't have the magic of what Supes is all about, same goes for Webb's Spider-Man.

Still prefer Raimi's much much more, still I see Amazing as the ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN just a pity it ain't titled as that.

Do wish Sony would scrap a third outing etc and go back to the Raimi-verse - we can ignore Spidey 3 lol :p

Anyway, either way Amazing Spider-Man 2 is gonna be ten times more a cbm than this FF reboot will be, just saying...

@Pending How? People with Pancreatic Cancer can can prolong their life with research/medication. Norman is a multi-billionare, so he'd obviously have access to the absolute best medicine on the planet. Why is it so unthinkable that he was able to prolong his life?

Just answering your question about the Movie, so don't take it personally....

It's like Twilight because I honestly feel like Webb and Sony made the first major comic book movie that is aimed primarily at the female demographic

* Movies aimed primarily at the female demographic

DrKinsolving - 6/21/2014, 5:05 PM
I'll try to explain.... I’m not a fan of the Twilight movies at all but I watched them with my girlfriend because she likes them and she read the books. We also watched Amazing Spiderman 1&2 and we felt the same way….

So much of the movie focuses on the relationship between Gwen and Peter and not Spiderman. There’s nothing wrong with that but this is a Spiderman movie. A lot of the other relationships felt the same way.

Plus, everything felt so rushed and extremely predictable, just boring imo

It had that whole,

1. I love you but now I hate you but now I love you again
2. Then, the I’ve been stalking you at least once every day." (Very much like twilight)
3. That's so cute!"
4. Then, that’s so sad….

They made Peter a stalker with an unhealthy relationship.

Not only that but Sony knew what they were doing and what demographic they wanted when they got Marc Webb to direct, who is known for 500 days of Summer.

As opposed to Sam Raimi

I personally liked the Raimi films better (not spiderman 3) because he brought some of that raw, horror (kind of) feel over because he worked on Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, ect.... I just wish the Raimi films could have been closer to the source material.

But I definitely think they were aimed toward the female demographic
